CSA / UL Approved PAT Testers

12/21/2009 2:41 PM

Is there an approved appliance tester (PAT) that is available in Canada or the USA? I understand that the units maunfactured outside of North America do not contain flame retardent plastic in the cases therefore can't be CSA or UL approved.

The appliance testor you are buying needs to be CSA, ULc approved for sale in Canada. This approval is typically only for fire and shock hazards (a light bulb can be approved). Other standards (EMF, Safety etc.) require seperate approvals. Most cases the "typical" unit is submitted to a third party for testing and approval. CE approvals in some cases can be "self administered" without third party testing.
