What is the best way to detect electrical currant 240volts at around 1metre.

Could you perhaps try giving us a little less information please...?

I didn't know currants were electrical! If you made them into currant jelly, could you use it to toast your bread just by spreading it on?

Sad that only the rest of us saw the humor in that.

I usually measure current by measuring the voltage drop along a wire. 12 gauge copper wire has a resistance of .263 ohms per meter. So if you measure 2 volts over a meter length of 12 ga. copper , .263)2=7.6 amps. I don't see a divide key here. It's basic ohms law.

It's voltage divided by resistance = current. or E/R = I

But presumably, he wants to measure it at 1 meter. So, hook up an ammeter, stand back 1 meter and view the meter. Sorry, I just couldn't resist since it is so clear what he is asking.

The sensitivity of the circuit will depend on the amout of current flowing through the 240v circuit. i.e. the greater the current flow the further away or less sensitive the detector will have to be. Roughly you would need a ferrite core, coil, high gain stages of op amps, filters, an output driver and some means of displaying output voltage change.

or wait for the feeling to go away...

A lot of jokes......

Another: buy a detector (proximity idea) built in 1970s

or

Make a CT (if it's a 240Vac circuit) by making several coils around the current-conducting wire and connect them to a light source (neon, LED) or meter.

Are you mad at these answers?

My mother use to say: "Want stupid answers? ask stupid questions." And as for you my friend, go back study the very basics basics, and when you know and understand what you want to ask, come back.

Go to web site http://www.proxyvolt.com.au

this is certainly one way to do it.

Here is another way to measure current and voltage without making galvanic contact, go to:

what is that 1 meter , is it a cable , appliance size ,or any thing else , if it is a cable measure resistance at minimum scale and apply ohms law , if it is a appliance read the wattage mentioned on the appliance and do the conversion yourself , or attach the multimeter in series with the load appliance and directly measure current drawn....please make practice of providing details for your posting , it will help you better...than you

There are two kinds of fields near or in the vicinity of an electrical conductor or machine like ceiling fan, hair drier, hand drill etc. Also near communication towers and mobile phones radiation exists. For each of these there are allowable limits which could be googled from websites. Electrical field is measured in V/mm and magnetic field in Gauss. There are meters to measure each.
