Agreed! To read hemaglobin you need a spectrophotometer to shine light through a blood dilution after it is chemically treated. You would need quite a bit of hardware for the micro to control.

You should look up the definition of spectrophotometer.

A spectrophotometer is comprised of much more than a single circuit.

There are many instances where a circuit diagram, _{or formula (with examples)}

is not the only answer, nor even any answer.

A. Cheap (screening) process:

1. Dilute one drop (1/20 ml) of blood in a 5.0 ml of low concentrated acetic acid (white vinegar will work). This will cause the RBC's to rupture and release their hemoglobin to form a reddish/brown solution.

2. Prepare a color chart of known samples (using exactly the same procedure). Color charts can be obtained from local pathology labs or suppliers, but the procedure and measurements must be consistent with their charts.

3. Compare the color of the unknown against the chart of known solutions.

2. Measure absorbance of a variety of known concentration to form a chart for comparison (Beer's law (A = BC): Absorbance = k [hemoglobin] calculation for g/dl).

Are you asking about how to measure A1c hemoglobin? This is the 3 month average of blood sugar for diabetics like myself. It is measured by an external meter (no light or IR LED) or by the lab where it is sent out to. Though implanted units use a IR LED. I consulted on such a implantable drug pump. External units use the strip use once and throw away. Your question is not clear on just saying hemoglobin so if this answer is way off sorry but I think this is what you are after since it is a very common measurement of glucose concentration in hemoglobin ask any Doctor.

The article I read from you is a different type of measurements of hemoglobin. It is not for Glucose measurement. So you just got some free info on A1c measurements of Glucose. This is basically how well your body is taking in oxygen into your blood hemoglobin in a real-time measurement using a finger sensor. This was used on me over a year ago when I went code Blue and was on a ventilator due to lactic acidosis. It uses LED sensors to measure oxygen and pulse. You need to do more research into this to understand how this works and to apply this knowledge to an application to make this measurement. In other words I know you are eager to build something with a PIC device but you MUST understand the theory and physiology of this concept first. I had to understand cardiology before designing cardiac pacemakers when I worked at St. Jude Medical the third largest medical company in the world. So you have to research, read books, read papers like the one you showed me then design! I know this from actual experience see www.sjm.com.
