what is unstayed pressure vessel head....................as per ASME Section VIII Div 1

An unstayed head is attached to the shell only around its circumference or perimeter. It resists forces solely on its own strength.

A stayed head has braces (stays) from one or more internal locations, typically to the corresponding locations on the opposite head. This is especially the case with flat heads, which otherwise would bulge.
