Multicore Vs Single Core Power Cables

05/25/2010 3:54 AM

I have come across a discussion on this website on three phase power evacuation through single core cable system. The economic and technical aspects of the system has been nicely touched. We have two types of hydel power plants , one having induction generators and other having synchronous generators.Induction Generators are having 4- core power cable evacuation system and Synchronous Generators are having 4 single core evacuation system. Practically the 4 core power cable system has got damaged early whereas the 4 single core power cables are intact after its use for almost 10 years.I want to replace the 4 core power cable system with 4 single core power cable system. From the respected experienced members I want to know the Advantages and Disadvantages of using Both the system over each other. What are the factors which are usually considered while selecting such systems.

Oy..Pajee,...it has the same advantage and disadvantages as if you 4 members going to one place in one car against 4 of you using 4 seperate cars. All four of you are too fat to sit in one car, you have to use other car. So you know , what are the factors are need to select now.

A well articulated satirical good answer. I differ with the off topic tag here.

cheers,

On a multi core cable, If one core gets damaged then you may need to replace the whole cable! If a single core cable gets damaged, you only need to replace that specific cable! In my experience, single core cables tend to be cheaper due to the way the cable is manufactured! Also for heat dissipation, the single core cables will be more effective. For ease of installation, multi core cable are better but for maintenance, the single core cable is better!

This is only a personal view and with out doubt, others may prefer to differ!

I do not have cause to differ with your answer, you have stated the core advantages and disadvantages of both types of cable.

Cheers,
