I have tried to read about the google.com/latitude technology and how it works but I understood the nothing :D
would anyone has a better simpler explanation?
Thank you very much
There is the privacy issue but the user must opt into the program. It would appear to have some benefit to companies wanting to track vans without installing GPS equipment. Since they would follow the movement of the phone, likely they would follow the movement of the employee. It allows for planning and scheduling of jobs. I have had occasion to observe employees in areas well over 50 km from where they were scheduled to be using GPS. Once the employee knew his movements were traceable, these side excursions were abated. I am retired now but did not consider the tracking of employees as an invasion of privacy since I paid for their time.
Now, what about the kid that plays hooky from school? Hmm, the phone might also stop that game. Also a good way to keep tabs on all youngsters for many reasons. I don't think I would have tolerated anybody watching me when I was young. I managed to rid myself of cell phones and survived. So I guess I am speaking from both sides of my mouth but I see both sides. Can Google Latitude be activated temporarily and deactivated by designated users? That capability may provide better use.

I don't find that privacy is that big issue since the user him/her self agreed on that when he/she signed up for google.....
but how would they now?in my country I have worked for an ISP and i know that the was is full with DSLAM...I am using an ADSL the IP stops in the switch box ...HOW WOULD THEY KNOW IF THEY HAVE NO IP FOR ME???
The Earth is mapped using satellite cameras or uplinked to them. Signals are multiplexed using statistical multiplexing which conserves bandspace. The multiplexing occurs between ground or base stations, repeaters, and between other satellites. Tri-angulation methods pinpoint signals from several transmitting devices between the earth and the atmosphere. Microwave receivers monitor the communications. I hope this simplifies your question a little.
