Allen Bradley Panel View Plus 600 Configuration

11/18/2010 7:20 AM

Hello Experts !

This is with reference to the title. I had one AB PV plus 600 whose touch screen failed and consequently it was not starting after resetting it(power toggle & reset button). I have its replacement which is brand new(of course blank). Referring to its manual, configuration of the same requires CompactFlash card which I do not have. My question is that, "Is it possible to program/configure it without having flash card?" I do have its ".mer" & ".apa" files of my application. Also, even if I had the blank or new CompactFlash card, How would I load/copy my backed up files to it? OR can I use any other means, like writing a CD etc..? and then transferring to the PV plus 600.

I would be glad if any of you guide me for my problem.

Thanks in advance for your concern...

Jitesh

According to the manual, it looks like the only way to add your configuration (your .mer and .apa files) is through a CompactFlash card.

You can attempt the following:

1) Buy a supported CompactFlash memory card. From the manual:

PanelView terminals running firmware 3.0 (or later) and computers
with an ATA card drive support the following cards.
• 4M flash ATA card (Catalog No. 2711-NM24)
• 8M flash ATA card (Catalog No. 2711-NM28)

• 16M flash ATA card (Catalog No. 2711-NM216)

2) Find access to a computer with a memory card reader. Most built in memory card readers have a CF slot. If you cannot find a computer with a built in memory card reader, you can buy a USB Memory Card reader, such as this one.

3) Copy your configuration files to the root of the memory card.

4) Insert the memory card into the PV 600 following the manual. You can open Configuration Mode by pressing Left and Right simultaneously. The rest of the process is detailed in the manual.

Welcome to CR4, and good luck!

Another possibility to get you going immediately is this . If you have another machine with a panelview plus download the .mer program into the second panelview. Make sure you do not check the box, run with download complete. Copy the file from the second panelview to a standard compact flash card and remove the file from the second panelview.

Take the flash card to the new panelview and download it using the flash card. Make sure you check the box , run with download complete, or you will have to load the file from memory every time the power is cycled. You can buy an Allen Bradley flash card but they are more money and a standard flash card will work.

If you have a liscensed copy of FactoryTalkViewME installed on a laptop, then it is possible to download the .mer file into the Panelview Plus by Ethernet or Seriel Communications using the "Transfer Utility." This does not require a Compact Flash card. For Ethernet, the IP Address can be entered in the Panelview's Configuration Menu which is automatically displayed whenever a "blank" Panelview is powered up.

Be warned that you may run into a firmware compatability issue after attempting to load an old .mer on a new Panelview. In FactoryTalkViewME you must "Create a Runtime Application (.mer)" that matches the Firmware version of your Panelview.

If you do not have FactoryTalkViewME, then you may have to Flash the Panelview back to the revision level that your .mer was created with.

Check to see what firmware version the Panelview is operating on by selecting "Terminal Information" -> "About RSViewME Station" from the Panelview's Configuration Menu.
