You could debug the keyboard.

Take a compressed air gun and blow away dead bugs, dust or bread crumbs from between or under the keys.

It is possible to remove , clean and replace the keys but you may and up with some funny looking words if you mix them up.

Keyboards are very cheap. You could clean it out, which sometimes works, or you could just get a new one. If the problem is still there with a new keyboard, come back here and we will work on a software issue.

If a good clean of the keyboard doesn't help, either buy a new keyboard or switch to using the other shift button (don't forget there are two).

All good advice! last but not least make sure you have caps lock deactivated to get the results you want with your keyboard.

Worth checking.

You can buy a new no-name USB keyboard for between $5 and $10. Why fight with a defective one.

I had a similar problem, certain keys not working, sporadic in nature. New keyboard didn't fix it. Problem was ribbon cable connector slightly warped but it's unnoticeable to the naked eye. The pressure was uneven across the cable. Fixed it by applying a piece of packing tape onto the cable to increase pressure. Also had and fixed this problem on my son's Nintendo Wii. The ribbon cables are very thin and the connectors are surface mount so they're not replaceable. I imagine many boards have been replaced due to connector problems.
