No, I'm not an 8, but I won't tell you what type I am because it would gratify the need of your type.

I'm a 3W2 so what does that tell me or any potential boss? Artsmith is right, its all a bit boring. I would have preferred a direct contact with the person in charge of the interview. If he/she would have been a dill I would have possibly ended up in handcuffs and not gotten the job or position they/I were after. Me impulsive? What a load of crap.

I must admit I find these sort of tests ridiculously trivial and annoying. However since there's nothing much else to do (or that I can do) while eating a bowl of chili, I took the short version of the test.

It was indeed trivial and annoying, but there were a few amusements. I especially liked having to decide between "decisive" and "indecisive". They could, after all, just monitor how long it takes you to decide.... Then again, spoonfuls of chili.

Strange. i took the test, confident that i am even better at everything than i think i am. Result : An image of a computer scratching the top of its monitor with the mouse, and saying " This test is meant for humans (heh heh). I always liked the four F's (fighting, fleeing, feeding, and ....ing), and being all over the map.

This time, I came out 5w4 on the first test, 9w1 on the second (with 5SX as the next possibility). The 5 motif (investigator) seemed reasonable, but I'm not sure of self-assessments.

It was interesting to take the test & talk about the results in a group of people who have known you for some time & have some idea of each other's personalities. You know a drinking game

I think I agree with your BIL, that it's good to have a group with different personality types. And the enneagram is not the worst personality test floating around out there. I tested a type 1 - like the anonymous (but recognizable!) poster #1, and that is a reasonable 'type' for me, afaict.

It didn't get away, it got in. While we're at it, I have about 30.000 words that need editing. It's all to do with politics, Religion and unrestrained names calling. Well, just the stuff were CR4 stops and eclectic decision making on truths and half truths are mixed with humor.

Due to my German background I am very insecure about the funny bits but dealing with oxymoron's can be very entertaining. Like personality and having it evaluated by a third party.

Presence is the only way to evaluate anybody and using a bucket (questionnaire), with plenty of holes in it, only leaves so much to work with and to quench ones thirst for getting to know a person and their abilities by doing that is a hard ask.

I don't give a bugger what someones 'test' says about them, I'll meet them and assess them for myself if it comes to it.

Fortunately I'm self-employed, so I only get tested by my results. I get on with most (say 90 - 95%) of my 'clients'. Some rub me up the wrong way - if they need me badly enough, we rub along, otherwise we part ways.

I haven't yet had a problem (in terms of personality) with anyone working under my direction.

I find the tests are interesting, tho' (on a kind of academic level).

Hhmmm the results more or less match the results of a Psychometric test I took 30 years ago.

At the time I was a shop steward for one of the worlds largest chemical companies. I was asked if I'd be a guinea pig for psychometric trials, NO! Eventually I was pushed in to it on the understanding that I could go through the results with the physiologist afterwards. It was frightening to be told your personality afterwards, especially as it was right! A bad tempered, cantankerous ba**ard with a hatred of management.

I was a member of a small team that was separated from the main engineering section to supply emergency breakdown cover. 5 of us were running wild within the company, so long as things were running smoothly the company didn't seem to care. Until my test results, it took them years to get us under some semblance of control. As one manager said it's like having a cage of wild dogs, let them loose and they'll get what their after, now try rounding them up! We could fix anything, even if it meant resorting to theft to get things going. Breaking and entering in to various stores was quite normal. One manager tried to give me a written warning for taking the lock off his storeroom with a pickaxe, it got to the stage where I had to be questioned by the works director. Arse kicked for using a pickaxe instead of a sledgehammer, unsafe practice!

Pickaxe? It could be an oxyacetylene torch, so long as you fill out the Hot Work Permit first...
