Can Laptop Battery Be Revived?

07/24/2011 11:09 AM

I have changed twice my laptop batteries. Can these Lithium batteries be revived in any way ? I remember reading somewhere that lead acid battery can be revived by a process call desulphacation ? Is there a similar process for Lithium battery?

Also , can normal alkaline AA battery be revived?

There are many urban myths about battery care. I don't claim to know ANYTHING about it except what I've read.

Good luck!

I wonder how the newspaper applies

I've had success with NiCad, say a rechargable drill

tape the trigger on

put it in the freezer overnight

recharge

use

Modern Laptop batteries have only a finite number of charges available. Usually about 2000. Can be more.

Plugging the laptop into the mains (laptop switched on of off does not affect the problems) is considered a charge, no matter how short.

The best method is to only plug the battery in when needed, the bummer is storing the battery is done best at the point at which the battery is considered by the Laptop as being empty, usually about 1 volt per cell, where generally 1.2 - 1.3 volts per cell is a full charge.

Which means the battery is discharged just when you need it......

If you are a totally "mobile" person, you have to just buy the batteries.....

If you use it often where there is power, simply remove the battery first and use the laptop on the mains only, they work fine.

In my family we have about 5 Laptops, one is 10 years old, the battery is still fine.....none of the others have needed a replacement ever, the rest except for one are about 5 years old, that one is new....

The last time I needed a replacement was when I was working and I was leaving the battery in all the time, they barely lasted more than a year. Toshiba....

This is a contribution towards making your laptop batteries last longer.

Most Laptop users always leave the ac cord on it even when the battery is 100% full.Leaving it connected reduces the lifespan of the battery. The battery functions well when you made it go through discharging and charging process properly.Immediately the battery is full, disconnect, use it up to the point of charging again and so on....

The best way to do this is to remove the label very carefully and replace everything underneath.

the only times that i have'nt been able to recharge a lithium-ion or ni-cad battery pact is when i drain the batteries until they're close to being completely dead. i have portable power tools that never kill a battery due to the fact that the tools won't operate after the voltage drops below a certain point. if i use the same batteries, in flurencent camping lights, they can't be recharged. the lights are capable of draining a battery to the point to where the charger considers the battery to be defective.

Use your power supply to charge them. Set it at a higher voltage but limit the current to an appropriate level, you will get them back.

Regards.

Almost all adapters or [chargers] are of 19+~VDC output irrespective of battery voltage which vary from 10~V to more than 15V.

It is the battery software built-in which controls the charge rate.

See my other post for links to see SW built-in

My only experience has been with automotive lead-acid batteries; I have no idea if this will work with lithium or ni-cad. I've had batteries so dead they wouldn't start the charger. Using jumper wires, I put a decent battery in parallel with the dead one, then the charger would go. Eventually I could remove the jumper wires and the charger would continue to charge the formerly dead lead-acid battery. Will this work with your batteries???

Some of the advice given here could result in serious injuries, damage to property etc.....and damaged batteries.

The sad part is that the information was probably given in good faith - but its just old Wive's tales is putting it mildly....
