Quantum Levitation

01/23/2012 10:09 AM

I was amazed on the concept and the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyOtIsnG71U&feature=related

What could be the future possibility for this idea. Probably the aliens UFO had been already using this.

What you think?

Even 3 months later, I still think it is waaay cool:

Probably, I'm out to see CR4 that time. Yap, what if aliens find a material without further employing extra energy on freezing it. Levitating Earth would be probably easy or any other planet with magnetic field. Though still fiction in my mind, but a big possibility that is.

If we could somehow levitate using earths magnetic field, the only problem is drag right and extra effort to maneuver directions, given they are also equipped with teleportation and portal technologies.

just thinking.

Dream time ! I fantasize on that myself; except that I don't think any criogenic temperatures are necesary (or practical, due to the massive size of a space ship).

If we just could surf the three-dimensional magnetic web that (along with other forces) shapes the structure of our universe; but how? maybe "tuning" the lines of force and responding with an oposite field, having precise control of the three axis, in order to achieve omnidirectional control.

We could even hover over non-magnetosphere planets (yes, the web permeates everything).

Regards

But I also think about the strengt of the field required to lift a single pound from the grund. Our earth's magentic field is kind of weak to tap on it, I mean that you don't have to strugle with a compass to twist its pointer.

You can't make the earth's field any stronger, but you can certainly create a super strong elctromagnetic pointer for your compass, but in the end you'll end up with a powerful electromagnet capable of lifting a truck, but unable to lift its own weight in the air.

Regards.

Hang on you two guys: this demonstration is fantastic, but, it doesn't add any energy to the system, it doesn't actually do any work; in that sense it is no more incredible than holding a book on a table, or, rolling a ball bearing around in a trough. When the circular track is held at an angle you still have to apply force to the disc to push it up the hill.

actually by relativistic theory of einstein, i thought about dilating mass at near speed of light in the otherway around if a mass starting to behave like such that of light is it really affected even by a weaker electromagnetic field.

Just a thought, might be.

I wonder if it can be made to work the other way round: i.e. a really well insulated thick superconducting rail and a permanent magnet carriage.

Could be a great magic act, but the magician would have to freeze their assistant to nearly absolute zero (assuming the assistant was good looking enough to qualify as a super-conducting-model).

You just need an assistant that grew up in our North Dakota winters. Near absolute zero is just typical January and Febuary night temps with a bit of wind chill!

Just pour her some hot tea after the show and she will be good in an hour or so!

I'm still hoping to live long enough to see a room temperature superconductor!

Use a light material which turns into magnet due to earth's magnetic field and make an arrangement so that it repel the cause.
