HIC Test

Where HIC test is required. What is the difference between SSC(Sulphide stress cracking) & HIC (Hydrogen Induced cracking)

They are both the same in the result when they render a item unsafe to use.

Sulphide stress is created by Sulphur and Hydrogen by Hydrogen.

The source will make the differnce I believe.

Sorry can't help more other than to advise to make use of the internet as it is explained in various places.

Hydrogen induced Embrittlement is cause by heat treating in a less than pure, inert atmosphere.

It attacks for example titanium bolts. this condition is avoided by heat treating in a pure nitrogen atmosphere.

The HIC test reqirement is specified by client / end user, depending on Service. Please see PV Hand Book by Bednar. To pass the test, specific mettalurgy and hardness are required for material.
