Not All Body Fat is the Same

06/05/2012 11:21 AM

Why is it that some obese people are healthier than others? This was one of the main questions Dr. Chaodong Wu of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences - Texas A&M University System - and a group of researchers tried to answer in a recent study. (Read the rest of the article here.)

I'm not sure silicone counts as fat.

Research in to the Omega fatty acids are showing that when the body is deficient in the Omega-3 fatty acid, the body is susceptible to becoming diseased. The modern diet is so high in Omega-6 that the imbalance between Omega-3 and Omega-6 is leading to "modern" diseases. I don't doubt that our genes play an important role in how the fatty acids are processed in our bodies, but when a nutrient is missing the reaction is predictable. References are diseases like scurvy, being a deficiency in vitamin C.

There is plenty of research information available. Search for Omega-3 and happy reading.

Correct... and more! The more one researches the connection between disease and diet, the more one realizes there is much that can be done to both prevent and treat disease by adding or eliminating the type of foods we eat. Supplementation might also be necessary.

The 'and more' is so true, but I try not to scare folks away from healthier choices by ranting on about the science behind those healthy choices. Hopefully, once further information is discovered by the reader, they start to become vested in the information. In other words - I can lead the horse to water....

I think that might just become my tage line.

True. It doesn't have to be a scientific "rant,": though. There are skeptics and they want something more than anecdotal evidence. I do understand, though. Maybe instead of rant a better word is enthusiasm.

Regarding leading horses to water -- so much water is polluted!

I frankly believe it is their metabolism and hormone production that enables them to maintain their metabolic activity level.
