Metering and Monitoring

06/28/2012 10:23 AM

Hello everyone:I have just started to working in a project of energy efficiency in buildings and I always see references to a monitoring proyect and metering proyect separately but in my opinion these two are the same thing, you need a metering project to have points with measures, and we need measures to develop in the next step (monitoring project) to work about these measures to obtain more information like efficiency improvement, energy performance, ect. I don“t know if there are another difference between this two. On the other hand I need a guidelines of metering and monitoring. If someone could help me I would appreciate. Thanks you very much and regards.

I find the term 'metering' used for billing, payments, money.

Monitoring can provide information about efficiencies, useage etc without billing being involved.

The degree of accuracy for metering generally is more critically examined when billing is involved.

Metering tells you what is happening now, a single point in time; monitoring shows you what is happening now compared to what has happened in the past, multiple points over time.
