Generator Load Sharing System

07/05/2012 3:33 PM

Dear Respected Friends I need to ask about load sharing in generator parellel operation.

in my power plant i have 2700kw*5 SDMO Generator full automatic with parallel operation prime mover is diesel, and governor is woodward electronic,

in parallel operation what is the main electrical/mechanical parts for the load sharing

Example: 5 generator Running each generator having balance load like 1000kw*5=5000kw how its sharing.

In each generator control panel their is base module, regulation module, & protection module. if some one have sdmo system knowledge so please reply me i will be great full to our group.

Here's the first thing I'd do.

READ THE OPERATOR'S MANUAL. If you don't have one, they can be found on the manufactirer's web site.

SDMO Diesel Generators

if that doesn't work, call the supplier and ask them how to do it.

Here are two papers that should get you started:

For paralleling the voltage regulators:

http://www.basler.com/downloads/VR_parallel.pdf

For paralleling the governors:

Go to Woodward.com and enter 01302_New-1.pdf in the search box

There is a lot more on Google when you search on Droop Compensation

You have a system that is working fine but you just want to know how it actually works. Is that right or is there a problem that you are attempting to resolve?

kW sharing related on frequency, KVAR sharing related on voltage. Sharing kW and kVAR, so what is the problem ?

You need to look at droop mode for stable parallel operation

as a novice to this particular setup, wouldn't it be advantageous to run two at 50% versus five at 20%. I realize you would need to optimize operating times/generators so that you maintained even wear.

Actual my problum is 1 to 4 engine running in parallel operation, only particuler one engine, when i start and load, so gradually increasing load like in normal operation, but kw value reach like another engine, so it must be stop to increase kw value but still rising rising untill overload, that means entered generator is not sharing load, so if someone have solution please help me.

So, 1 to 4 load share nicely but only one particular unit (the fifth) wants to take full load?

They are all identical yes?

It's not just the 5th (ordinal load introduction) of any of the 5 but just one recalcitrant unit yes?

I think the load sharing ratio depend on the gorvenor of each generator, so you must read the operation of them.

With all the modules we can use today for sync. gensets, it's easier to do than trouble shoot. Without behavioral statistics of your system, the problem could be anything.

Generally, unsuccessful load sharing between gensets can be due to two major factors:

If you have a problem with your excitation control, one of your gens will be regulated at a different voltage level than others, and that will cause a reactive load sharing issue.

If you have a problem with your fuel control, one of your gens will be regulated at a different speed than the rest, and that will cause a KW sharing issue.
