Why is CR4's Website So Unresponsive Of Late?

Maybe the techs went home for the weekend? (I'm getting the same flak.)

Same issues as well here and its been that way for about three days now on several different computers I have access to which are all running different OS and web brouser combinations so I am pretty sure its not on my end.

The text editor for making post and replies is crappier than usual as well but really that's always been that way so I don't expect much there. Also it would be nice if I could use my Google Chrome spell check here as well. It underlines all my misspelled words but the editor will not let it do its job without doing the 'bypass custom menu' crap for every single word.

For a forum packed full of engineers of all trades it sure seems odd that we have such an antiquated and clunky system here.

I'm on Google+ and, believe me, in only a few minutes I finding myself pining for CR4's threading and editing system. For a company the size of Google and having their stellar computer expertise at hand, you'd think they'd come up with something better than a CompuServe-grade forum system (or worse).

IMHO, CR4's forum (computer-based) setup is second only xkcd.com's. Theirs is truly awesome in terms of sophistication and ease-of-use. Insofar as CR4's mobile performance, well, I can't honestly say that I've seen worse lol.

I'm noticing also that CR4's buttons and links are more likely to respond faster if you double-click them. The ones that show javascript:void(0) when you hover your mouse over them still respond, however. This is strange.

When logged in (or at least I've entered details and hit return), the system hangs and I get that message. A few times recently I've not even got the home page up - Error 500 (may have been 505, but it's one that relates to a server problem on the CR4 side).

Another annoyance is seeing that ****** double-click poke it's head up. This issue was asked before, and the the CR4 responce amounted to 'not triggered on our side'. hmm.

My mailbox takes forever to load, but that's maybe my fault for not deleting old messages. I'll slip that one in because it gives me a chance to repeat a beg I've made before. A button within the mailbox that enable a message to be forwarded to our registered e-mail and deleted from the CR4 system.

2 Cents; CR4, having been 'acquired' (I just lurv such slippery terms) is now becoming much more money driven. It was pretty much inevitable, but we can't complain (IMO) for a great freebie place to hang-out and catch up on interesting tech stuff. That said, e, it's worth raising the topic. If nobody mentions issues, they don't get addressed.

The people running CR4 on a daily basis are probably still trying to figure where it's all going themselves. Lot of added work to have sponsered blogs etc. I'm such a fawning creep at times that I have to stand on my head to make my expression look more tongue-in-cheek than tongue-in-****

A quick check, and I get adnxs and quantserve cookies from logging into CR4. Visiting a recent blog on science, I also got about 20 more (all tracking cookies used by advertizers) just from looking at the page. Nothing troublesome, but clicking thru several pages (plus links) on CR4 would result in a fair avalanche. Doubleclick wasn't amongst them, but it's on my block list. Can't be bothered to block them all (going overboard on such would make it impossible to load and view stuff), though it's the first place I'd look if my computer was acting strange.

The glitch seems to have been resolved; at least I'm no longer getting such messages.
