Underground Cable Laying

08/28/2012 7:47 AM

Dear all.

we are involved in a project of laying underground cables. we planned to lay trefoil arrangement. we have to lay two cables in the same trench. can anyone give me a clue whether any minimum distance requirements in laying trenches.??

if so kindly let me know where i can get the data.

I referred to IS 1255 & 62087 but i couldn't find any data which can solve my issue.

Thank you

It should be available in IS 1255. The minimum horizontal distance (axial spacing)between two trefoil formations should be 150 mm.

In most construction areas, the horizontal distance between trefoils is equal to the diameter of the cable.

Have you read IS 1255 thoroughly? It is very much given in IS 1255. Please refer to the figure (in page 28) below Clause 8.8.5. It very clearly shows that there shall be a horizontal distance of not less than 2D between two trefoil fomations of three single core cables. It also recommends the transposed arrangement in such a case. Please do read Standards thoroughly.
