FMR240 Radar Level Transmitter Experts

09/10/2012 3:39 AM

Hi everyone!

I wanna adjust a FMR240(RADAR Level Transmitter by E+H). The measurement is OK but Suddenly it goes to the top(100% of Level) and after a while, it comes back to the normal correct Level measurement. And this problem is happening frequently! What should I do? Do you have any idea to solve this problem?

One of the possibilities is that the horn is becoming wetted with condensation from the warmer liquid in the tank, so one might consider lagging the unit and the tank to keep it warmer so that condensation does not occur.

One of the possibilities is that the loss-of-signal failsafe setting is set to 100% rather than keep-the-last-reading, so one might consider reprogramming it using the instruction manual supplied with it.

One of the possibilities is that there is significant turbulence in the tank so the unit cannot see the surface, so one might take steps to reduce the turbulence.

One of the possibilities is that the unit is in the wrong place on the tank, and the reflected radar signal gets lost so that the unit cannot see it and goes 100% on AWOL of the signal, so one of the possibilities is moving it to a different flange.

One of the possibilities is that it is none of these and something more esoteric, so one might consider telephoning E+H's technical helpline for assistance.

Dear mate

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I have no other chances for finding another flange on the top of the tank.

1) Yesterday I saw a weird thing: I wanted to turn LT and I loosen Stud bolts in this regard; Kept gas in Nozzle released and consequently the reading of LT decreased. Could it be because of the nozzle height? In catallogue it mentioned to be 50 cm maximum but now it is 90 cm and vividly gas is compressed inside it, where LT horn is located.

2) Are you aware of how we should calculate "Range of Mapping" for these type of LTs? Maybe it works...

Your helpful hints will be appreciated in advance.

Is it a new installation & has this fault. Or this fault has developed on an existing, properly working level transmitter?

Dear Mr. Joshi

The previous on was an Electro-Mechanical Level Transmitter(With cable and a floater...) but now we changed it with a RADAR type one.

Anyway, it would be appreciated if you can help me about them.

Ideally you will need to map the tank when it is empty, but if you still have solution in the tank map 0.5m above the solution.Make sure you have the Basic set up correctly, eg tank shape, fast response, DC , etc.Radar level meters are excellent, only if set up correctly.

Dear colleague

It is obvious that you know enough about this type of LTs. Can you help me, how I can calculate "Range of mapping"? I want to set 2 Level Transmitters, which are Ultrasonic type; FMU40 Again by Endress and Hauser. One of them shows a larger distance than usual and consequently a lesser Level in the Tank.

Which kinds of problems may be occurred about Tank? Because I have 2 Ultrasonic LTs on almost same tanks that both of them show me right values for one of them and less level for the other.

Could it be, because of the stilling well of the latest tank?

Your kind recommendations will be appreciated.

If you are using a HART to communicate, go to mapping then select manual mapping. If tank is empty you can map the full distance of the tank, if there is still product in the tank, map just above the product, The distance you will enter is from the LT to just above product. Then the next step is to start mapping. You can also do this on the LT if you don't have a HART.I have not used the EH ultrasonic type.
