Power in Space From Static?

why wouldn't it be possible to collect static electricity and amplify it to use for powering spacecraft?

My reply was in direct response to the question of gathering static electricity from SPACE, not the surface of a planet.

In true space, there just aren't many particles to bump against each other.

Let's let the OP decide who's right.
