Can anyone explain me a scientific method to measure the straightness of CR 100 Rail?

You might try contacting these people...found when I searched for CR 100 Rail on Google.

Is this loaded or unloaded? I just shoot a laser above the rail and measure the dot to the rail height. Works for many applications.

It would be good to know the pass/fail criterion after all that, please.

Our magnetic robot and laser guide can do this for you with a precision of 0.2 mm and a max. deviation of 30 cm. It is used exclusively by SGS to calibrate tanks.

It generates measuring results every mm it travels.

Straight, level, or smooth?. Or all three?

Big difference.

Which do you need?

Take two clamps and fix them at both ends, tie tightly piano wire at both ends and measure the distance at various length in x axis and Y axis.

Methods are plenty.

1. You can check it with manual plumb method.

2. You can check it with the help of theodolite. however, if you do not know the theodolite operation, then hire one experienced land surveyor.

IF you are looking for strictly level, try an ancient method used by the Egyptians, to level the foundations of the pyramids:

Place a container of water in a fixed position on one end of the rail.Insert a clear tube, and siphon the water until all air is removed from tube.Mark the water level on the tube precisely, using the meniscus (The part of the liquid that does not touch the side of the tube;the center of the water column) of the water level. For ease of measurement, adjust water level to an even number of MM or inches.

Be sure the container is secure and does not move.

Take the tube to any spot on the beam, and check for identical measurement from beam to the meniscus in the tube.

The accuracy will depend on the precision of your measurement.

An inclined manometer can be used if you really want to split hairs to hundredths or thousandths (which will have you pulling your hair out) of an inch.

A machinist's level will also give good results if properly used.Much more accurate than a carpenter's level, but also very touchy.Still no better than the water-level method above, if you have good eyes and accurate readings.

Calculating sag is easy if you level both ends, and graph the difference along the length at pre-determined distances.

We use a laser but in the old days, we would stretch a "piano wire". go here for tolerance chart. Look at page 2.

This PIG measures many dimensions of a pipe including "straightness". The dimension "straightness" is measured by a parallex 2125 chip which reports deviations by changes in PWM which is sent to an arduino mega and filtered and processed by a rasberry pi.
