Recommend Components for Miniature Processing Plant that will be Automated using

02/27/2015 5:40 AM

I am building a processing for a university project and am looking for some recommendations of components that will work well with the NI USB-6009. This DAQ is limited to 5VDC output @5mA. Please find the spec sheet here: http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/20043762301101dlr.pdf. Due to this being a university project my budget is $100 and I require the following components:

a float switch or something similar

a two-way or three-way solenoid valve

a pump

a pH sensor

a temperature sensor

a camera

I understand that I may not have a sufficient budget for all of these components but any recommendations of products would be appreciated.

You can find the parts you need here.

  • Products & Suppliers
  • One of the things projects like this do is to teach students how to research (on their own) to find answers to this type of question.
  • If you ever land a job, you may not have assistants to do the leg work for you.
  • Start now, and develop a sound skill, not a managerial fault.
  • In other words, do your own homework.

First of all, you will find great reluctance for people to help an anonymous poster (I'm breaking my own personal policy of replying to AP's). It's too confusing to try to keep up - after all, we're all anonymous anyway, we probably wouldn't say half the things we do to people who know us face-to-face.

Second, it's against forum policy to answer homework/test problems. If you show that you have tried and have encountered a specific problem, you may very well receive some useful assistance. However, asking us to basically do your project will shower you with ridicule. Please elaborate some on your college career (major, etc.) and this project.

Third, you will almost certainly need to design/build/install at least some output conditioning - 25mW won't power much of a solenoid or pump. And as for a camera - what are you trying to do? There are industrial vision systems available, but they aren't in your budget range. On the other hand, all kinds of web-cams, etc. that use a USB interface are available cheap, but you might have to do some heavy software design, depending on what you're trying to do.

In general, there are a bunch of robotic and hobbyist sites with all kinds of things available, since Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers have become so popular. Reply back, and maybe some of us can help.

scall93 is that you? Same model DAQ and a pump!

Come on now, be honest.
