Do We Need More Robotics Engineers?

Posted July 18, 2010 12:42 PM

BP has made extensive use of underwater robots during the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, illustrating how today's technological problems require sophisticated engineering solutions. We still have a long way to go to perfect many of these systems. Are there enough engineers working in robotics? How can the industry draw more talented professionals and students to the creation of robots and robotic tools?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Robotics Systems, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Robotics Systems today.

first there has to be a need of more robotics engineers, and before that, applications for the use of robotics

"............applications for the use of robotics"

Almost endless. Some applications which I have implemented can be looked up by visiting www.artecrobotics.com. The possibilities are limitless; however, we have to exercise caution and wisdom in our seeking to apply Robots keeping humaneness uppermost in mind. Isaac Asimov's rules are very relevant here.

Now here comes that ol "tween a rock and a hard place" syndrom.

I just love the technology that we see everyday, but somedays I wonder.

If the automobile is built by robots, are buildings next? and so on and so forth.

if no one is working because a robot is doing your job, then where do you get the money to buy the car that the robot built that you used to build?

One day the blacksmith was shoeing a horse and a car drove by, and he knew his job would soon be gone.

but I guess we'll just get jobs building the robots. won't we?

I've wondered as I put my geothermal heat pump and solar dish collector together, if I've put anyone in the gas industry out of work?

I look at like how computers were going to reduce our time and become a paperless society. . .never happened, what it did do.....it actually not only increased productivity, but increased the work day

I agree, that technology lets you move further. There is no one type perfected technology at any given time and search for new is always on.

Skilled men of today will be ancient men tomorrow is the game of nature else we are not using our brains to learn and make progress.

Back to Methuselah or make your own world is the only choice we have. World today is misused is more serious thing. We have almost destroyed it to a great extent.

*Could not be loaded due to my inability to "paste" the image from word document "ROBOTICSEMPLOYMENT.doc"

Diagram* illustrating the addressing of the usual fears of Automation, Robots and computerization. We're all aware of the tremendous benefits computerization has brought to India/WORLD and enabled the reduction of helplessness of the vast underprivileged population finding not only employment but also handsome and unheard of salaries, even to start with!!

Hail Robotics!!

People who are working as robotics & AI developers should be given some completely funded research platforms with all freedom to demonstrate application of robotics, othr than usual applictions For innovation, we need to do that. Coz this is the time to do that for future developers..!!

Partly from:

1.Sales of Robots

2.Servicing of Robots

3.Scrapping and recycling of Robots

4.Profits from manufacture of Robots

5.Training of Robotics engineers

6.Taxes paid by those who use Robots
