What Is It? Blog

What Is It?

What Is It? is a place for engineers to test their knowledge (and sense of humor). Each week (or month, or...) the CR4 team will post an unidentified picture of an object, tool, animal, something. We're looking for your best (or funniest) guesses at what it might be in the comments.

Yes, we take [appropriate] submissions. Send them to cr4admin@ieeeglobalspec.com.

No, it's the updated Dick Tracy wrist TV holder, with places for the forward- and reverse-viewing cameras.

It's the LynDoorTM 'Spillomatic' combined cup and pen holder
They pinched the idea of KrisDelTM and I must admit they have increased the coefficient of spillage significantly.

Well, that was clever - and a picture to prove it! I must explain the lack of a chain linking the 2 handcuffs. Far too crude for such advanced beings of course. Instead, the 2 separate units are able to exchange supersymmetric Higgs bosons on command by remote control from the nearest copper, nark, bobby, rozzer, bill, fuzz or their Martian equivalent, thus ensuring the handcuffs are held together by nuclear forces. Pretty obvious when you come to think of it.

These are a more ostentatious version of a money belt, worn on the wrist or ankle hold gold coins...It holds the 1 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold Eagles...

Sounds crazy, but it looks similar to an elastic device I saw many years ago, used by undertakers to keep obese clients hands together when laid to rest. It was worn on the right hand pointer & ring fingers and the left thumb was inserted and retained, while the left fingers (on top) covered any view of the device.

Well the truth be told, as it must....These leatherette bracelet with holes looking thingys are watches...Oh not just any watches, but super high tech designer art watches by Russian designer Alexander Petunin ..the blurb..."Alexander has made the timepiece look like a bracelet, which will decorate your wrist like a fine piece of jewelry. The unique design consists of three different sized holes. The biggest hole represents the hour needle, middle one the minute hand and the smallest is used to read seconds. The watch will be made available in two colors: black and white. It has been fitted with carbon nanotube film and LEDs. The inner lining of the holes, in the white one, will be decorated by a blue LED light that will move with time. The designer has used red LED light for the black timepiece, which makes it look all the more attractive.
hoLED watch will ingeniously fetch power to work (electricity) from the sun and wind. It will also get charged when someone shakes the timepiece, while daylight and warming will offer extra life. The sinful facade is quite sleek and dainty. So, it will lend a classy appeal to the watch. So, slip the hoLED watch around your wrist and get ready to pull a lot of attention."

Well I think when wearing one you can see the LED's reflection on your skin, so actually with a little practice who knows you might be able to tell the time, but the wow factor is more the thing here...imo

I understand that some of these Alexander Petunin watches will be made from recycled cloth. Yes, they will be known as Alexander's Rag Time-Bands.
