New Instant-Fix Fabric Is 100x Stronger Than Duct Tape

Posted October 29, 2013 12:59 PM

From Gizmodo:

It's joked that duct tape can be used to fix almost anything. But a new product called FiberFix might very well be the only tool you'll ever need for emergency repairs. And the secret is its special resin adhesive that hardens stronger than steel as it cures.

If it has a, "special resin adhesive that hardens stronger than steel" why does it need the reinforcing cloth?

OK, I admit it looks worth a try.

Because wrapping an object in a liquid is a serious test in patience.

I know guys who fly fabric covered aircraft. They tell me duct tape is only good up to about 90 knots. This might be for them.

Prairie Home Companion will never be the same if the Duct Tape Council dies...

That Gizmodo article was a little light on useful information.

Read the manufacturer's FAQ page and then decide whether you really need/want this or not.

It has limitations.

It also has some excellent properties and surely would be just the ticket for some applications.

Would be good for prophylactic ruggedising as well as repairing after the event...

Looks like the Bondo stuff that I used to fix the rusted holes in my lawnmower. You lay the fiberglass cloth over the hole, mix up the epoxy stuff and soak the cloth with it. It works great.

Before duct tape, there was a tape called "200 mph tape". It was brown and was 2 to 6 inches wide. It was used during the war to patch holes in aircraft. It is still available, but I don't know where.
