Still reeling from the giant octopus attack that left extensive damage, city officials besieged with demonstrations from PETA and other animal rights activist organisations demanding that the bridge be left as is , claiming the beast may be nesting and should not be disturbed, announced today to undertake a detailed study that may take several years and cost millions of dollars....meanwhile the city has come to a standstill.....

It's shorter if you start in the middle and build two half bridges rather than start at one end and build a whole bridge.

Here, where I live, is an actual "Road to Nowhere", the city had such a hard time keeping street signs in place that they started selling them.

Since the government made on time and on budget a law this is what most public works projects look like now.

By starting in the middle, engineers quickly discovered they could build the bridge without interference from spectators and pesky onlookers.

Saved heaps on the site security budget as well!

No, No. Mr Director, the landing from the first jump actually takes out the suspension, then we change to a new stunt car for the second jump. You will just have to do it in two shots and splice them together.

"No, no, no. First off you're mixing your metaphors. It's 'burn the candle at both ends' and 'we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.'"

"Ah, got it, Boss."

"Secondly, when you *DO* mix those metaphors for comedic effect, it usually turns into 'We'll burn that bridge when we get to it,' not 'burn the bridge at both ends.'"

"Understood, Boss."

"Finally, you realize the two-man comedy team posing as legitimate workers routine is as dead as vaudeville, don't you?"

"Don't blame me, boss, blame the hack writer."

(Both characters look meaningfully at the camera.)

I defer to T. S. Eliot:

"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go."

"What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from."

News from the future....Dateline 2056 : San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge was dealt a blow today by GMA's(genetically modified apes) when city officials tried to hire non-union workers for low level management positions, union officials called for "A crap slinging revolt", as it was reported, to protest "human encroachment into ape only positions" as is specified in the contract signed by both parties after the "Great Banana Debate of 2050"....Bridge repairs are on hold....

I'll pass it up the line......... But, I don't think it's will be necessary,..... you see, 3 weeks ago, our politicians just removed the cap on our spending.......... and our printers are running 24/7.
