Choosing a valve can be challenging. For example, material compatibility
can be an issue in some applications, especially as the choices for
valve materials continue to expand. While not new, applications for plastic valves
are gaining a foothold in the market, thanks to continued development. A
German regulatory agency has approved their use for potable water and
gas applications. One company offers PVC union ball valves and PVE ball
valves in applications of up to 16bar. And, research is finding still
more materials: Engineering360.com recently reported on fusible alloys that can be used for a variety of products, including valves.
