Re: Caption This for 1/27/17

That is such an ingenious use of virgin palettes (They're all WAY too clean to have even seen a single use in shipping) to create a beautiful, functional, expensive(1), one-stop-arson station for the building.

Two sheets of newspaper shoved into a bottom opening, then faster than you can say 'flickum bicus(2)' that building is burning to the ground, taking the twisted, molten wreckage of the sprinkler system with it.

Notes:

  1. four stacks of palettes six feet high contain the same amount of framing lumber as the average Single-Family American house.
  2. That's not a slur at Native Americans, the phrase comes from The Dresden Files series of modern-day fantasy novels. In that series' universe, magic works through channeling the power through one's own mind, so wizards use languages they are not 'native thinkers' in as a layer of insulation, both to prevent accidental spellcasting(3) and to protect the spellcaster's brain(4). Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden(5) Uses the 'dog Latin' phrase reminiscent to an old lighter ad campaign for the first spell he ever learned, one that creates a tiny spark, just enough to light a candle. It's such a 'low-power' spell that the danger of getting one's mind 'too close to the Power' is minimal.
  3. "Shirley, the way you did your hair really lights my fire- WHOOPS! Stand still while I throw a bucket of water on your head. If you run around you'll go up like Michael Jackson!"
  4. There's a mention in one of the books of using one's native language allows the Power to run deep through the brain, with an affect similar to a 480V power line running through the frontal lobes.
  5. Yes, his parents deliberately named him after three famous stage magicians. Few people know the Blackstone portion of his Name, and no living mortal aside from Harry knows the Copperfield portion(6).
  6. The more of a being's True Name a wizard or Fae being knows, the more power can be exerted over him, in that storyline's universe. It was demonstrated to the reader early in the series when a dragon in human disguise(7) used only the name "Harry Dresden" to send the hero tumbling to the ground without lifting a finger.
  7. The clue that gave away the dragon's disguise was the fact that he was blowing smoke rings while holding an UNLIT cigarette holder at a party.

I think you are saying that this looks like the stairs at the nightclub in Oakland where many people died in the fire. That is the first thing I thought of when I saw the picture.

That is another way of putting it.

I can't look at that without my inner Safety Engineer screaming that that amount of well-ventilated wood will produce a fire that will overwhelm(1) the normal sprinkler systems installed in commercial/industrial structures.

Notes:

  1. Why is it always 'overwhelmed' or 'underwhelmed'? Is there never any balance; can't anything just be whelmed?

While on a Art Gallery Tour, a crowd mistakes warehouse for an art gallery. Shown here, the crowd were snapping pictures they thought was art.

Here's is a few other works of art caught on camera.

While a Pair of glasses left on US gallery floor mistaken for art

No one at the warehouse had the heart to till them this is a warehouse.

We used to get pallets from the fruit company for free and they would deliver. Other wise they had to pay to dispose of them. Of ten they were made of exotic tropical woods. We would make shelving with them, fences or just use them for firewood, except when we cut them up it was easier to burn them with the nails in and shovel it out later. The homeless build shelters with them too.

It's not a well known fact in Rock history, but back in the late 1960s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant once worked together in a pallet factory.
