Yes finally I am ahead of the gang I think

The Grand Mosque in Djenne, Mali (my initial guess was Timbuktu so only 400km out)

The largest mud built structure in the world

Was working on a gas project had to convince local government that although politically putting gas plant there would be good it was a REALLY bad idea from engineering perspective

Actually more like NE and 1500 miles across the Sahara, but close by you know!
