Reconditioned Valves Spur Controversy

Posted December 21, 2007 8:24 AM

In the last issue of this newsletter, we ran items warning you about reconditioned valves. Jim Cahill's blog continues the discussion, with special warnings about using rebuilt valves in hazardous locations. Although equipment may be acceptable from a functional perspective, depending on equipment age, repair history, application severity and other factors, such "reconditioned" equipment may be out of compliance with safety standards, or with manufacturer's specifications as originally designed to applicable industry codes, for safe use in hazardous locations. The market for reconditioned valves is growing rapidly, but are they safe to use in hazardous locations?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Valve Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Valve Technology today.

Thank you very much for the shout out to my reconditioned valve blog post featuring Emerson's Bob Baker. I hope it adds to the conversation on this important consideration for process manufacturers.

Take it easy,

Jim Cahill
