Don't Sniff, Look for Leaks

Posted February 26, 2008 8:25 AM

For years, engineers have used a 'sniffer' to find stray hydrocarbon leaks. Now, you can use optical imaging equipment to see the leaks. Both infrared and laser imaging spot a gas cloud around an offending valve. The API and EPA developed the technique for leak testing programs. How else can optics help?

It is very nice stuff..! A lot of input from these devices. I do believe that optics are going very well ahead of the game now. That kind of technology can probably will be great to adapt to people that are challenged due a blind condition for example. So far with all the sensors spectrum available out there now that will be of some good help in such condition to apply. Probably by integrate this technology througth a portable microprocesor that can be wear and transduce such images to a voice or sound system that the person easily be able to identify on what obstacles or hazards the system is seing ahead as the person moves around. This will be probably good as the 'guidance dog' is unavailable for some reasons. Who Know's, I guess, the technology has a lot of potencial when well apply it. Hang in There then.. Also for fire prevention alarms system to detect smoke out of a piece of a critical equipment that need to be monitored 24/7. A whole bunch of things can be done with this cool stuff of sensors and microprocesor units all over. Alrigth have a nice time now...!

Easy Does It;
