Over here you may end up with a car-less wiper.

What about bent radio antennae? Eastbourne is a good place for that.

I had this same idea years ago - only mine used modulating force fields.

Great, The last thing I need is to be following one of those cars when the automatic wiper system goes off because it determines that the window needs to be cleaned and wash the dirt off their car onto my clean car. Thanks!

I would like to see this working under heavy wet snow storm or icing rain.

The jets better be heated.

Also, ow energy surfaces are quite bad for driving.

The Rain-X product is close to dangerous.

Optically, many, many small water droplets blur vision.

I have used Rain-X successfully in certain circumstances - it is best when the temperature is above 5C, as clouding occurs when it is colder, but at 50mph in heavy rain visibility is better with the wipers off, allowing balls of rain to roll off the screen unimpeded.

Yes, but in circumstances where you need to use the wipers, the micro bubbles left on the windshield reduce visibility quite a lot.

The high tech wiperless windshield probably uses the same kind of low energy surface, which would be somewhat helpless in the type of driving conditions I experience daily in Montreal's winter. Results would be a lot better in Dubai.

Drizzle is the worst - the droplets are too small to be pushed off the screen, so smearing is inevitable - unless maybe the screen is internally heated?

While both these products have their uses under certain circumstances, I still think we are a long way from having cars which can dispense with wipers completely.
