I understand the WD-40 got its name because it tryed 40 times before they got the formula right

I've always liked WD 40 for its water removing properties but not as a lubricant.

I even used a couple of cans of it in my safe when it got flooded with water and the carpet lining would not dry out. I wet/dry vacuumed it out as best as I could sprayed it with the WD40 and stuffed full of newspapers. In a couple of days it was dry as a bone & I could put my guns back in it.

I was told once that it started off as a military contract item. the idea was to spray it on ICBMs at launch to repel moisture. WD stood for Water Dispersant. True or Urban Legend, who knows?

Urban myth has it that the inventor was looking for a substance to rub on his hands to relieve symptoms of RA. He inadvertently got some on a rusty widget and VIOLA!

Maybe I will sprinkle some preparation H around and see what happens!

Yeeeaaahh!!!! Good Stuff by the way I'll need to sray a little on the front gate here and finish it with some '3 in One' lubricant to fix up that squeaking noise back and forward which it get annoying some times believe you me. Hey some data on the '3 in One' stuff by the way? I only know it works very good as well in many things around too. Allset let me take care of that gate now before I forget it again. I just add a quart this morning to my car there but skip the gate again. Hey easy now with the coming weekend now, Not Much 'Captain Morgan' now Buddies. And keep it running.........

As I understand it, the base of 3 in 1 is, or was, the politically incorrect whale oil. Same with sewing machine oil.
