Are Industrial Robots Safe Enough?

Posted August 17, 2009 7:25 AM

Typically, all kinds of safety devices — including bells, cages, flashing lights, kill switches, proximity, and audible alarms — are routinely installed to protect employees from co-worker robots. Nevertheless, a woman was reportedly killed by a malfunctioning box-moving robot in a California plant. Eventually the investigation will conclude. Do you think this was a fluke accident, operator error, not following safety rules, or what?

Robots are machine like

Respect them like you would a train or a car. Even though it has safety measures, don't expect them to see you, or when the lights are flashing that they can stop.

Nothing is fool proof, things fail.

OMG, this is what happens when fabricators gets board....I don't know whether to admire thier imagination or scold them.

I wish I could say I never did anything stupid when I was younger.

Well that answers that, I'd scold (verbally reprimand) them, then walk away and find a quite please and laugh.

I thought he touched.

when I worked at the shipyard people did alot of stupid things to get a laugh......would'nt it have been something if a high level tour was about to go through the shop and this was going on. What would you say.

And Jim here is going through a battery of tests on the robot, he does this with every robot.

On the serious side, with the size of that robot, it could of snapped his neck like a twig...
