Liquid Nitrogen

09/01/2015 8:02 AM

liquid nitrogen gas is first in liquid form .it can loose the all properties of any material in form of ice. So if we use the liquid nitrogen in some rivers what will be happen?

refine your question more. lose what properties of material. The physical properties. It doesn't lose it, it changes, such as the fracturability increases. Conductibility changes.

As far as using Nitrogen in rivers, it may have a affect on the eco-system, because Nitrogen is a fertilizer

Nitrogen on its own isn't. Chemical compounds of nitrogen, you mean, Mildred.

Stand corrected..... ammonium-based nitrogen fertilizers

Thanks ...... Mildred.

Ammonium-based nitrogen fertilizers. In this case, the nitrogen is redundant.

Liquid nitrogen quickly changes to a gas if not insulated from the environment. It boils at -320 degrees F. Air is full of nitrogen (well, 79% full), so I don't think you will pollute the environment.

On Earth? Yes! Somewhere else? Not so sure!

Think like Fredski, do it on Mars!

On Mars? Heck, do it on Pluto and it will stay in the river without evaporating too fast.

Is this also going to turn into a political rant about the slum-like conditions on Mars vs. the Valhalla like conditions on Pluto? And who made it that way, and why. You have 20 words with which to answer, and none of them are correct.

It sounds like you want to do something to rivers, I am just not sure what it is and neither do you seem to. Are you trying to cool water?

Can you please restate your question more clearly.

Green is a good color for temperate regions. It implies that chloroplasts are not failing from a variety of reasons.

Exactly.

At the same time, a localized bloom may produce a brief, exquisite, artistically pleasing image.

More often than not a sudden bloom of green can lead to a broken jaw.

GO J....

Never mind.

Re: Liquid Nitrogen

09/01/2015 11:29 PM

Yes- If it is liquid nitrogen it is nitrogen in the liquid form. Loss of properties is not limited to many materials. Some chemicals or compounds will stay the same through the range of the liquid Nitrogen becoming gaseous Nitrogen. If you use liquid nitrogen to cool a river you will either freeze the river or parts thereof or change the phase of the Nitrogen from liquid to vapor. This results either an iceberg or a big vapor cloud of Nitrogen. Either way you do it is a pollution problem.

Words of Caution- Nitrogen is an asphyxiant, it does not support life. Do not expose yourself to atmospheres of it. 19% oxygen is required to support life.

Good Luck, Old Salt

When there is tsunamis there we can use this liquid nitrogen then the impact will be reduce on envinorment so it is good or not

To reduce the risk of a tsunami you better live in the mountains.

How do you intend to use liquid Nitrogen against a tsunami?

It will not work, and it is also a really bad idea to add a lot of chunks of ice to water already full of debris.

Next tsunami party, plan the event a bit farther uphill, and stop whining. If you don't like being near the ocean, move inland. We are not responsible for stupidity here.

Re: Liquid Nitrogen

???Questions-

Is this an automatic liquid nitrogen system with an automatic tsunamis sensing device to release the liquid nitrogen? How is it going to determine the optimum time to release?

Is it to be manual (human) controlled? What size pfd's Personal Floatation Device) are available in an emergency situation? Have they been trained on how to don them?

Who will deliver more liquid nitrogen if more on hand is needed? Does the driver have a CDL? Will the trailer be placarded? UN 1066, ERG Guide 121.

Statements-

I have never been in a tsunamis so I can't speak with personal experience. Try YOU TUBE, "tsunamis nitrogen".

You well need a SCBA, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, since all the nitrogen wants to kill you.

I no longer have a CDL. You won't need a team of drivers, not long enough of a trip. Don't pay them on a per mile basis. Pay per trip other wise no one will drive for such measly pay.

Get a photographer to tape all this as proof of your success. Give them a pfd so the results don't get lost or drowned. With your proof of the successful implementation of liquid nitrogen for control of tsunamis you could become the next Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Sam Walton or some other people. Heck, if you choose to be a Donald Trump you may even get your own TV show, have many wives and run for president on the Republican ballot. Democrats need not apply.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Ask Fredsky!

He has all the interstellar and interplanetary news and might have an idea where rivers of Nitrogen flow.

I guess its not Pluto, but who knows!

Spelling of "Fredsky" was intentionally.

Hey, that is going to be one of the moons of Jupiter, or was it Saturn. Either place we are decades or centuries or millennia away from reaching, much less doing any mining.

Darn spell checker is going bonkers today. It cannot even recognize a millennium much less more than one. How are we going to mine the moons of the outer planets (or planetessimals for that matter) if we can't get spell check to work? It seems to correct the spelling or accept the word, then red underscores it once I move on and resume typing.

If liquid nitrogen were to be introduced into rivers, the water in the rivers would freeze and the liquid nitrogen would turn into nitrogen gas.

The latent heat of evaporation of nitrogen is 199 kJ/kg, while the latent heat of melting of water is 334 kJ/kg. Since the density of liquid nitrogen is is 0.8 this means one needs 2.1 litres of liquid nitrogen to freeze 1 litre of water. I doubt the river is going to stay frozen for long.

What you need for tsunami is great wall like so....this just for highly populated areas close to ocean....inland communities no problem....
