Sizing of AVR for Air Conditioners

10/21/2015 2:05 AM

Hi

We have 8 pcs of 36,000BTU air-conditioners, with standard input power of 36w each. I want to connect to the AVR what is the correct size of AVR for this load.

Regards

D.D.Mtonyole

With a 36w input, use capacito and ic voltage regulator. 36kBTU in 36w, wow that's an alien technology.

The question is nonsensical.

Your wattage number is not sensible. Shouldn't it be 36KW?

Well first you need to decide which type of AVR.....

http://www.ustpower.com/comparing-automatic-voltage-regulation-technologies/

Then you need to determine the kVA rating....

Several things are odd about this question: A 36,000 Btu/h air conditioner might consume about 3.6 kW, but not 36 W. The term AVR does not really apply here. For sizing wires, circuit breakers, and/or fuses, the voltage needs to be specified.

If they are 36,000 BTU air conditioners with an input of 36 watts I take five of them. I'll even pay the freight from within the contiguous US. I'll save more money with them than I would if the wife stopped shopping from QVC and HSN!

Good Luck, Old Salt

You may need voltage stabilizer not AVR.

Dear Mr.dmtonyole,

Your posting has some error. You have referred input power for each unit is 36 w. You have referred 36000 BTU and there are 8 Units.

For Tonnes AC effect, the definiton is 12,000 BTU/Hr. and for 36,000 BTU the Tonne effect is (36,000/12,000) = 3 Tonnes. You have referred 8 units are there and hence heat removal is (36,000/8) = 4500 BTU and hence Tonner/Unit is (3/8) = 0.375 Tonne. The total power demand will be in the order of 4.5 to 4.8 KW. and for each unit it will be 0.5625 KW to 0.6 KW. Hence 36w is no where near the actual load.

What exactly you mean by " .... I want to connect to the AVR what is the correct size of AVR for this load ..". Pl. clarify.
