1) Suitable for the use intended. Whatever you use for a mechanical system should do what you intend it to do.

2)... can't think of anything else generic enough to continue with in the total absence of any relevant information.

It doesn't break.

ok but I'm not getting you anything else for Christmas....

"Desirable Mechanical Properties

Ductility

It is the ability of a material to undergo large plastic deformation without cracking or shattering. This is the property that allows the material to be drawn out into a thin wire.

Resilience

It is the ability of a material to store elastic energy, which is also called modulus of resilience. This property is important when selecting a material for spring manufacturing.

Toughness

It is the ability of a material to withstand sudden loading or to absorb energy until it breaks and it is measured in terms of modulus of toughness. Machine components that are subjected to sudden loading must be made from materials that possess high toughness.

Hardness

It is the ability of a material to resist scratching, abrasion or indentation. It is one of the easiest criterion or measurement in acceptance tests, and quality control of raw stock as manufactured products. Common hardness testing methods are Brinell and Rockwell hardness tests."

You must first understand something about the subject to pose a respectable question.

Proper capitalization and punctuation would certainly help.

Usually a desirable mechanical property will be that things don't fall apart when used. This is not always true. This weeks essay assignment is that you must come up with two supported exceptions to this by next Wednesday. As usual, only printed reports on my desk will be acceptable for full credit.

On the electrical end of things, the desirable qualities are high resistance, low resistance, high capacitance, low capacitance, high inductance, and low inductance. Just in different situations, of course.

Lego my leg!

How about desirable mechanical properties for soup!

Even this depends on type & personal likes.

Was'nt there "soma" in "Brave New World", sort of anti-depressant without side effects?

Uh, they can both be liquid.... or frozen.

That's about right; my intended answer was "liquidity."

It is called a Mega Soma Coma when one takes too much soma.

It makes "people" incoherent and stupid.

This is obviously a point that Kulas/Legohead has passed, if indeed they are human.
