This is the latest in NASA's perpetual assault on the sanctity of acronyms: Quiet Supersonic Technology, or QueSST.

This pithy but apropos observation swiped from here.

I don't see any forward-looking windows. I don't see the runway, either.

Isn't that a new supersonic passenger plane design that NSA has recently announced? I saw it on GIZMAG earlier today:-

I seem to remember that when "we" had Concord one of the American plane builders said they were going to make one twice as big and twice as fast. The Concord people said it would be very expensive to make due to the exotic materials required and has yet to appear.

....and Concorde has been and gone many, many years......

I would say that we should not "hold our breath" so to say. Many a slip between cup and lip!!

Over the years, there have been several attempts to make a "better" Concorde, the nearest that anyone got was Concordski, and look what a disaster that was!!!

Concorde could do barrel rolls and had the fuel system of a then fighter aircraft, it helped to fly and stabilise the aircraft.

Concordski simply blew up/fell apart in a dive!!

I liked these videos for anyone interested:-

Must have been Donald Trump going off (again).

If the contract were handed off to Lockheed or Boeing, do not worry about if it will be built. The X-plane will exist and will fly. Cameras will provide a full 4π view, just as they do with a certain stealth fighter plane. No windows for passengers, that way the pilots can display a "normal" situation, even when what is taking place outside the aircraft is anything but normal. Just saying. We Americans can make you see what we want you to see, and also make you like it. And if you don't like it, you get to help pay for the wall between us and Mexico. Vicente Fox can shove it!

Trump would have to rename it "Air Force 0", in order to surmount all others who held the office.

I do believe that is a "zero" alright, but the model number on that one might be the A6m5, a deftly handled turn fighter in the hands of an expert, and would stall fight and win against early American fighters as the F4F Wildcat. It could lose the stall fight against the FM-2 (General Motors) version of the F4F. It definitely would lose the "roped" stall fight against the F6F Hellcat, and was no match for the F4U "whistling death".

The problem with the Japanese fighters was they were too slow at cruise altitude during the middle to late war, and they could not dive away as readily is our fighters could, and thirdly, they had no self-sealing fuel tanks, so they were as matches waiting to be struck.

the thinking is a "needle" design will mitigate the slapping close of air that's currently ripped open and causing a BOOM as the hole in the air is slammed shut.
