How Many CR4 Subscribers Had One of These? How Many Are Still Around?

05/09/2017 9:03 AM

The "Mamod no.2". A thing of great joy - still around tucked away in a box and it hasn't steamed for 25-30 years, so it's a little worse for wear. It ran on methylated spirits ("denatured alcohol"). On one occasion it got close to setting fire to the family kitchen!

It was just too underpowered for the sawmill accessory and the grinding wheel accessory though it did successfully power a tea-stirring machine built of Meccano.

So sad to hear. Regardless of anybody's differences on the forum over the years, we can pretty much all come together and agree that pets make our lives better.

I can only imagine the hearthache you felt when you found your pooch. You have my sympathy.

I lost both of my best friends last year, both rescues, both much loved.

Good on you mate!

I hope they have good no-kill shelters in Germany, so maybe you could find one of the more "grateful" ones. Every dog we have (me and wifey) is a rescue dog, and the joy just keeps mounting.

Yep, I had a smaller version of that where the cylinder and flywheel were mounted up on the tank. The picture below was the exact make and model. Long gone.

Once I hit my teens and internal combustion engines, the little steam engine didn't keep my interest so it probably went to the church bazaar or something. One of those things I wished I kept from my childhood. I might just buy one if they are still available when grandchildren start to enter the scene.

What a great idea, you could even refurbish it back to its original quality/state, all gleaming copper and brass......

A fun job and if your other half allows, maybe a showcase of things hardly seen since your childhood maybe.....memories?
