Amazon has been working on developing drones for deliveries. Apparently the delivery drones will be coming from hive like warehouses. Here's the article:

This has to be an expensive program, though perhaps in the long run the costs might come down. It seems to me that there are a lot of unknowns that Amazon will need to go through before this really becomes viable, logistically as well as legally. My guess is that, for now, a strong factor in their drone development is that it is a signal to delivery companies like UPS to keep their costs low.
