Possible Treatment For Corona Virus

This physician seems to have good info, but I listened for a while for treatments without hearing anything about that. If it is in there, at what time?

First off, the video did a good job of explaining what is happening, that's probably what you only listened to, you need to listen/watch through the whole video, that's what SE posted and what the whole video is there for.

The treatment is actually a procedural of treatments that compliment each other for more effect usage. No magic pill, or silver bullet but a compliment of treatments that starts at 5:30 there's 3 of them... well 4 actual. But it's pretty cool and informative stuff. I'll go through it, but I recommend seeing the whole video.

the treatment is,

1.) being ventilated differently (than the Norm), and that is with low tidal volume?. They've known about it since 2000 for treatment, this is very uncomfortable ... so

2.) they basically paralyze the patient for ventilation for reasons given above AND the patient reaction to the ventilation.

3.) and Prone postitioning of the patients 17-18 hours a day.

and the biggest help is, like a lot of ailments, is catching it and treating it early,

Another interesting thing, if you watch the video,... these procedures for more effective treatments have all been published individually 5 to 20 years ago.

if I caught it correctly: Lopinavir 400mg/ ritonavir 100mg (Kaletra two tablets, twice a day). or Chloroquine 500mg orally/day-Koreans (Chinese use twice a day).

in Korea Chloroquine was not available so they used Hydroxychloroquine 400mg orally/day.

The Korean CDC is very open and with all info in English. Population of the US is about 6.5 times that of Korea

The biggest impact of the testing (equivalent to >1,500,000 in US) is that they pick up a lot more of the minor infections significantly increasing the denominator in the death ratio.

While the current death rate is 0.84% of infections notes that 95% of confirmed cases are still in isolation. That number is only going to go up. The number of new cases is falling and the big bump of cases from end Feb /Start Mar are working through the system. There are a lot of poor old people in Korea who are likely to be vulnerable although as they all grew up through the War years and the decade after when Korea was impoverished they tend to be very tough.

The infection rate seems to be 3.6% (excluding the untested numbers)

However like in China it is largely confined to one outbreak

The Sincheonji church is in Daegu 72.5% of cases

They held a funeral at a hospital (very common in Korea) it is a separate wing but it is still a bit odd for foreigners in the adjacent province of Gyeong-buk which has 13.3% of cases

If you add in the cases in other places also associated with this "church" you get to nearly 90%

Generally Koreans have been very civic minded. There has been no mass panic buying, nor has there been a mass exodus from Daegu

The key take away for me is as always, knowledge is power. You need to know where the problem is and isolate it. This can only be done with far more testing.

I return to the UK in a couple of weeks and am far more concerned about how the UK is dealing with this than I am in Korea

IMHO I think that ALL big businesses,including the pharmaceuticals and medical, are psychopaths. I doubt that we will see the use of these remedies in the USA anytime soon.

However,this is not meant to disparage the doctors themselves.

I hold them in high regard.

It take a lot of dedication and focus to become a doctor;many sleepless days and nights and 24 hour shifts,dealing with the diseases,accidents and horrible afflictions of mankind.

Most are kind,empathetic,angelic doctors out there,and I praise them,but the organizations themselves are the culprits,IMHO.

It will probably take at least 18 months before this treatment is approved in the USA.

The main reason is "It's not under patent and is very cheap",so they will delay as long as possible,jumping through hoops,(double blind studies,animal trials,etc,etc) putting on a show,taking many months before they allow any such treatment,and finding a way to maximize profit from the commonly used drug.

If aspirin were a new drug,it would be prescription only,and cost $10 a pill.

Doctors may prescribe any approved drug for off schedule use,but run the risk of liability if any adverse reactions occur.

I realize that testing is necessary before releasing a new drug,but with overwhelming empirical evidence of it's efficacy it should be used without delay in such an emergency as is occurring now.

I agree with your assessment with the drug companies, with their lobbyists and associated politicians all dragging their feet so as to position themselves financially when they do allow it.

If that is what is going on, I wouldn't count Trump out to do something about it.

Gilead is desperate to find a use for remdesivir it's failed ebola drug, and seems to be giving it away in hopes of finding some efficacy against covid19...at a projected cost of around $1000. a shot, I hope they give patients a choice...There is no evidence it works at all....chloroquine has been used successfully it seems and is off-patent, so much cheaper....

I would like to see a trial on seeing how low they can get the dosage and still be effective for chloroquine...the 500mg dosage was established for treating malaria which I think is more for parasites in the blood....a lower dosage might work for covid19 and lower the risk of side effects or at least the severity....there might not be any need for such a massive dose in this type of use....

Great find SE! Definitely something to watch.

This made me think about Quinine Water drink mixer, now mostly called Tonic Water. Quinine was another anti malaria medication and is often dissolved in Tonic water.

As a preventative measure I think I might start drinking Vodka Tonics more regularly and taking a zinc supplement. Maybe add some pomegranate juice for good measure, I understand that's supposed to be healthy. Tequila would probably work as well, or Gin. And if it proves not effective, well at least I got some enjoyment out of it.

The chloroquine drug has some serious side effects, although maybe for short term treatment is ok. IDK.

The primary goal here is to avoid the need to go to emergency/hospital. And enjoy the ride as much as you can. If treats don't cure me, well...... (burp, dammit, that was delicious).
