Never tried it. Too expensive.

I've had the same problem with paper bowls.

Did you make sure you have the stove turned on?

Could it be because the silver vessel has holes in it??

It is a riddle isn't it?

Guest,

Anonymous hero and Electroman have come up with the two most "logical" (?) answers.

Unless of course the explanation is that the silver vessel is sitting in the freezer...

The pot won't boil because silver is so lovely that everyone is watching it.

Because the silver melts before the water boils.

Won't happen heat would transfer to the water and boil before the silver reached its melting point.

My Granny had a silver tea kettle on a stand with a container for fire underneath. I am sure the water boiled in there. What I don't know is if the bottom was of silver or only decorated with silver.

She also had a silver fruit bowl. It stood on a rim and the walls is not solid. no good for containing or boiling water.

My guess why water would not boil may be because of the high conductivity to electricity.

Or maybe it forms a potent oxide layer when exposed to heat.

If water do not boil in silver, silver coins may not burn you in the pocket and it was the reason it was used for currency.

Maybe it is not healthy. She died a mysterious death at 104. (She just stopped breathing with no obvious cause).
