Spontaneous Human Combustion

12/20/2007 9:14 PM

I know "coming out the gate" that this topic is likely to be considered off the wall. I would like to hear what the CR4 bloggers have to say on the topic. It seems too weird to be possible, but then there have been numerous instances cited. Are they all fraud or misguided? What are the possibilities?

Not an engineering topic, but one to stretch the mind.

Wasn't that a couple of years ago? I remember seeing that clip. They had him on the news afterwards, I don't know if it was when they were back in port or not, but he had some cuts on his face andd afew bruises (or something to that degree)

Now there's a pleasant end to look forward to.

Although, being a religious sort, I think of my cremation as preheating.

Being from the sunny climate of California, vermin must be half-baked ! Sorry v, I couldn't resist ! Being from the UK I am of course just 'wet'. And the idioms just keep rolling ! Like my use of ! I'm possibly more of a 'damp squib' !

Before I die I shall try to swallow a length of rope. If possible, my closest friends can then test the 'human candle' hypothesis' !

Oh, no, I can't stop !

OK! I admit it!!! Spontaneous combustion does exist!!! We vermin have known about it for centuries!!!

How much do you think the average vermin makes in a year! We just can't afford those luxuries, like stereos and easy-bake ovens, so at the beginning of the year we leave our purloined turkey out... It takes the better part of the year, but eventually the turkey gets cooked through the process of spontaneous turkey combustion. Mind you, we do have to get the bird addicted to barbiturates and cigarettes for the whole thing to work.

That tooth thing is so true - always happens at the worst momment. I had a crown fall out once and was horrified at how much tooth the dentist had removed ( Bacon roll at Waterloo East Station). My gnashers are currently gearing up for lunch. All in place and raring to go !

Re: Sontaneous Human Combustion

12/25/2007 7:23 AM

I suddenly realised it was last Christmas for me as well. I had an abcess which I thought would go away again. Rinsed with tcp for all I was worth and it only got bigger. On Christmas day we had to go to an emergency dentist, very pretty young asian girl, who was very stern with me and told me of. Not a very happy young asian girl and after that not pretty any more either, what a bitch in fact.

Anyway, I have now had a whole year without trouble in the teeth department as I did go to the dentist after that. First visit in over 20 years, see my teeth look al right now....well sort of.

Hope you can make it without too much pain Del. If you use superglue, watch out for your eye lids. see that is what happened to me last time I played with it.

p.s. all my folk here are also still in bed, tsjk, I don't know, Christmas just isn't what it never was anyways.

I should have asked Santa for one of those dental repair kits .

Pretty dental nurses are a very good distraction...problem is I can't remember why these days..and they always have n+1 buttons done up...dratt!

Dental repair kits? For diy dentistry? I thought all you need is a piece of string, a door and a bottle of whisky .

Nurses are ok as well but she was the Doc!

On at least one occasion I have embarrassed myself by constructing a tent whilst in hospital. Well it's hardly my fault - they should wear sturdy knickers and thick hessian aprons. A mate had to go to the docs to have his 'nether regions looked at, and The Doc was a gorgeous young woman. I nearly died laughing as he described it all. She knew every gag in the book, "You can get these in adult size as well" , " I may have to give you a jab, but it will only be a small p...." etc etc.

Is the apparent shape of your head a result of misjudging string length ? It's X-mas so I'll share an embarrassing story. I once had piles, and retreated to the bog with booze and a razor. The pain had been so bad I could barely walk. No matter how pissed I got, I was unable to slash the bloody things. Oh it was painful. It must have looked pitiful as I crawled out an hour later yelping in anguish ! All that suffering for no end result. Luckily this problem has not occurred since.

I suspect that vermin collect souls ! Rather like Banks, they take a little piece of you on each transaction whichever way the market moves. I'm going to search google earth for acres of trussed up Turkeys - vermin probably wasn't joking ! With v though, he may not mean the feathered variety. Stacks of politicians could be lined up hog-tied, a bit like those air craft stashed in the Mojave desert (or wherever it it is). Never buy 'sun-tan' oil off furry people in Silicon valley, especially if they offer to apply it with a baster.

I once saw a TV documentary about this. They demonstrated how somebody accidentally setting fire to them selves can appear to have spontaneously combusted. Pig fat etc was rolled up around bones and stuffed in clothes etc. A person can burn in a similar fashion to a candle. Any of the published picture can be re-created in this manner.

Exceptions exist ;

Hello vermin,

We had planned for New Year's day, a big Family dinner.

We normally have roast pork, green minted peas, new potatoes, glazed carrots, roast kumara etc.

I just looked in the freezer, and decided not to eat the pork crackling, because of the misshapen tattoo,of which I attach a photo

Happy New Year....

Excuse me but does nobody here ever befriended a pig farmer?

Clearly not as you would then know they tattoo the pigs for batch control.

I often see a partial tattoo on my barbecue skinny rashers when I am outside in the sunshine turning them over on my braai... ok that sunshine bit was a lie, I live in England.

Castration of 30-40 K of hogs a year can alter a person's demeanor, in unpleasant ways.

Nope, definitely France, I checked with a girl I know who works for Reuters.

This demented butcher had seen a film (Possibly based on a Roald Dahl story)- an impoverished artist tattoo's a guys back for a decent meal etc. Years later his works become famous. An unscrupulous art-dealer discovers the by now impoverished owner, and , well, you can guess the rest. This butcher guy is so obsessed by some dudes arm tattoo that he murders him, but not knowing how to preserve it decides to cook the evidence. He fails to notice that the picture is still just about discernible on the roast limb. Unfortunately whilst carving for guest the joint roll over whilst carving at table. He is currently serving life ( which is a terrible pun I know, but the story is true !).

Perhaps all that was left of Nadine, was the last part which read 'dine',which may well be appropriate.

Incidentally here in New Zealand, Nadine is a recently developed type of Potato, Refer:

http://www.producepack.co.nz/pot-type.htm

I see they also have Nadine spuds in the UK....

I don't know if this is done everywhere, but here in California, people collect "heritage" or "antique" plants. Strictly speaking, these are fruit bearing plants that are no longer commercially grown and that have all but become extinct.

So there's a lady I know that has an apple tree that was discarded by agriculture almost eighty years ago.

The chef at our company cafeteria, served a dish with sliced heritage tomatoes. One was purple and the other was bright green! So I'm thinking that the green one isn't ripe and is going to suck! On the contrary, both tomatoes were very rich in flavor and were some of the best tomatoes I'd ever tasted. Needless to say, I went back for seconds just for the tomatoes!

By the way, does this mean we get to call Nadine "Spud-Girl?!"

The Russians have a variety described as 'Black', though it looks distinctly reddish to me;

The UK has lots of rare apple orchards and assorted other fruit veg collections.

Nadine looked like "Melon-Girl" to me ( although oil drillers might fancy 'spudding-in')!

Seasonal silly anecdote : Years ago I got some chestnuts and decided the only way to do them was under a grill. Being youthful and ignorant, I didn't know you had to slit the skins to allow gas escape. At the precise moment that I bent over to check progress the whole tray-load went BANG !! . Wow did I think the world had ended. I was sat on the kitchen floor splattered in bits of roasted chestnut. Lucky I didn't loose an eye or something, but it was bloody funny when I recovered enough to look in a mirror. Some lessons just get learnt the hard way.

It has just occurred to me that there must be a temperature at which a person will spontaneously ignite. Anybody know it ?
