Positively....

Just be careful when mixing matter and antimatter that you don't cause a rift in space.

Aknowledge their negative concerns....once. Then ask for their positive ideas and contributions. If they persist, explain that it is easy and safe to say everything is imposible and to aim at achieving nothing.
There is no shame in trying and failing...the shame is in never trying at all.

The man who never made a mistake never made anything.

Almost everything we do can be improved by trying again. Problems can be solved once you expose the problem...If you don't try, you never get to find and solve the problems.

If all this fails, let them make coffee, run errands, document everything, promote them to manager .

If they can't contribute anything dump them.... sad but true.

There is no 'I' in team.... but there is an 'I' in shit.

Del

<There is no 'I' in team...>

"There is a 'me', if you look closely enough!"

(With apologies to 'David Brent', a.k.a. Ricky Gervais, in "The Office".)

This is a very good question. I think you will find that Andy Germany has some very good insight to this matter.

Happy Holidays to all!

Try to determine through discussion what they would consider a win-win for both they and their employer. Ask "What would you do, and what results would you have?" "Can you measure the results and prove your point?".

It is not that there is no plausable solution, i.e., if all good motivational efforts fail, then do not let the door smack their ass on the way out. Some people just cannot be changed, motivated, etc. and will drag down the entire organization.

Regards,

Ing. Robert Forbus

Maybe this will offer some insight? The Perils of Modern Living Well up above the tropostrata There is a region stark and stellar Where, on a streak of anti-matter Lived Dr. Edward Anti-Teller. Remote from Fusion's origin, He lived unguessed and unawares With all his antikith and kin, And kept macassars on his chairs. One morning, idling by the sea, He spied a tin of monstrous girth That bore three letters: A. E. C. Out stepped a visitor from Earth. Then, shouting gladly o'er the sands, Met two who in their alien ways Were like as lentils. Their right hands Clasped, and the rest was gamma rays. -- Harold P. Furth

Add enough positive force until he fills a negative hole!

My department head had a great way with dealing with negative news. He just ingnored it completely. There's a safety hazard that stands a good chance of killing someone? He would just say that we should be positive about it. He would have asked Mrs. Lincoln if there weren't positive things about her visit to the theatre.

He was a great guy but completely usless.

If he is your boss tell him "you are right BUT... "then give your idea, else ignore.

I'm inclined to agree, I think the best way is to always agree with them, then continue with a positive point of view, as they are negative they are not willing to agree with you, therefore they do not pursue there point of view. This after a while frustrates them, and they will sometimes take on board some positive suggestions. Hopefully.

Regards JD.

Actually my position was not that of an engineer. I was a wrench turner in the maintenance department but from what I heard from engineers it was much the same from them.

Is it true that there isn't a direct translation into the Japanese language for the English word 'no'?
