Stonehenge to be Moved?

04/01/2008 6:01 AM

This post about the excavation at Stonehenge is just the precursor to it possibly being moved to a safer location.

There are countless accidents on the nearby A303 caused by drivers taking their eyes off the road to view the spectacular monument.
There have been many schemes to move the roads or divert them through a tunnel.

Current thinking is that it will be cheaper and better to preserve the Henge by moving it to a better location.
Cardiff, London and Leeds are believed to be bidding for the prestigious project.

The archaeologists divide construction into 3 phases - circa 2950-2900 BCE, 2900-2400 BCE, and 2550-1600 BCE. Do a Google search on 'stonehenge construction' and learn all you can stand.

Actually, it seems most of Great Britain is composed of nothing BUT henges - take a look at this...those aren't crop circles peeking thru! I'm beginning to think there's a henge in every farmyard there...

Cardiff?!? Arf, arf, arf! Have they already recovered from the giant? Even though that was New York, not Wales, the name has a certain cachet...and it's befitting this particular thread, too!
