What's going on?

08/08/2008 11:09 PM

Until recently, whenever I responded to a post, I was automatically informed of subsequent comments to the thread. Now, it seems that responding to a post does not guarantee being subscribed to the discussion. Is this something new on CR4 or have I somehow inadvertently adjusted one of my settings so that I am not advised of ongoing discussion?

I do Believe:

(_God_ I hate to use that word_) that our posts are monitored by a responsible person who would not offend Authoity. No kidding. : - )

So in their "Greater Wisdom" they move controversial stuff "Off Line" so not to offend.

Well, you have a choice if you want to be notified by e-mail of new posts when you subscribe to a discussion. There's a box to check at the bottom of your post for this feature.

However, CR4 had a problem with this over the last week or so. I didn't get e-mail updates for a few days. I think they fixed this, as it seems OK now.

All posts are subject to review by the editors, and they do a good job. However, I think you will find that an overwhelming number of CR4 users go out of their way not to insult, use fowl language, or belittle anyone that posts here. Truly, the "best and the brightest".

I refuse to place my head in the sand and "Hope for the Best", I mean we ain't getting it. I do appreciate your opinion, but I am seeing the economy refelecting that work, health, wages, welfare for the general public; has all gone over seas.

Well played dbdwoods .

I agree with you. I threw out a "flame" comment, and you handled it with tact. As a Steelworker, I feel your pain. I don't think of my company as a "war monger", but we are a defence contractor.

Do you think we have any real choice in November? Obama is a dreamer that the rest of the world will walk all over. McCain will be just more of the same.

I do believe that there are a lot of bad people in the world that would take everything away from us if given the chance.

Peace through strength.

Ummm:

What makes you think that we have anything left??? Obama, Mccain both answer to the same "King Maker" people. I figure it's a one party system, the debate is all a ruse to bemuse the public.

We can only follow our Worldly Examples out there and start protesting, stating that we see is wrong and we want it fixed.

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On Lyrics

Complimentary "What's Going On" Ringtone

Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today - Ya

Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Ah, what's going on

In the mean time
Right on, baby
Right on
Right on

Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Oh

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on - Uh
Right on baby
Right on baby

Just a thought, If you do not like the choices, vote for some one else. I intend to write in Dr. Ron Paul in the November election.

I am not trying to influence anyone, but in my opinion (humble) he is the lesser of three evils.

Just my opinion.

My prediction Bricktop.

Obama, if elected, will turn out to be worse then our worst dreams.

The tail does not wag the dog.

When you say you are a "Steelworker" does that mean you work on the shop floor, to the extent that technology may have left in that regard, or are you part of management?

As far as "a lot of bad people in the world that would take everything away from us if given the chance." Do you not really understand that Ben Laden comes from a family of Saudi contractors and that from his point of view, or his families point of view, or of many privileged others in those societies, they don't consider that the U.S. is taking everything away from them?

Is the situation in that regard not the same as when the founding forefathers made a revolution against the British Crown precisely because as the colonial master the Crown was taking everything away from us, i.e., taxes without representation, prohibition on manufacturing, requiring raw materials (Cotton) be sent to Britain for finishing?

History is useless unless we put it through that very fine mill that we possess in greater capacity than all the other beasties on this planet, including those closest to us, i.e., reflection.

I really can't help but ask "Who is 'us' white man?"

Bricktop- I tend to disagree with you about who represents "more of the same"- it seems Obama is just as arrogant and closed-mined as the current resident. I think McCain offers the best hope of change, if change is what you are after. But, generally, I agree there really isn't much choice...

You have every choice. Vote for who you want. I personally am writing in Dr. Ron Paul.

We as United States citizens do not have to take the choices that are shoved at us. We can write in any person we choose. If enough people make "none of the above" our choice then change will happen. Not because some political hack tells us he is for "change", but because we decided what "change" will mean for us.

It is not wasting your vote to vote for a third, fourth, or whatever number of parties we wish. We need to take back our country. And it will not happen until we make it happen.

Just my opinion, Dragon

No fowl were injured in the making of this post.

However, the turkey, stuffed with goose, stuffed with chicken, stuffed with duck, stuffed with Cornish hen, then stuffed with French dressing for dinner is a different matter.

Here, it's standard practice to stuff the humans with the turkey, etc.; usually we are dressed first, too. But then, I see you are IN Turkey, so I guess you'd naturally want it the other way 'round. Would eventually be crowded, though.

Hello Guest,

I don't reply to email addresses.

It is unwise to list your email address in Public Forums, ( is a public access Forum), because of webcrawler robots which harvest email addresses, then those email addresses are on-sold to others who on-sell again.

The result may be hundreds of advertisements arriving in your email box daily, trying to sell you "special medications", watches, and more - those Emails are horrid

To answer your question, Read: http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/15743/How-to-insert-Graphics-into-your-Post-to-make-it-more-readable-or-interesting

Trust you find this once more, and feel assisted.

If you Register at , then you may 'tick' Forum Topics you are interested in, so each updated post auto-sends you a private email (or not = user-selectable).

Registration at is free, and you may well, like many other Members be a more interested part of this helpful Comminity.

Kind Regards....

I think the site had a bit of a wobbly for a while last week - e-mail notifications disappeared, as did the details of 'latest comment date' in the 'subscribed discussions' list. Also, replies to comments in a thread were not being associated with the comments to which the replies were made.

That's all fixed, now, so if you've still got problems, I'd suggest checking the settings in your profile.

Hello "Guest" garth,

It is important to have an extra Browser up one's proverbial sleeve.

Use IE to download Mozilla SeaMonkey

refer: http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Then, when you have a Browser foul-up, as many had recently, use the alternative Browser.

The Software Wars are continuing, it seems

Kind Regards....

just wanted to say thanks for the tip on Sea monkey, seems to work pretty well so far , with more features than Firefox, IE 7 continuously goofs up on my machine and not ready to reload yet. I'm trying to hold off until some more of the bugs worked out of vista.

Hello YWROADRUNNER

SeaMonkey Browser Suite actually replaces the earlier Mozilla Suite, which some are still using.

It is not advisable to continue using the earlier actually named as "Mozilla Suite", since some enterprising person at Mozilla discovered a major Security flaw, never thought of before.

SeaMonkey is currently stable, has good facilities, and I use it as an alternative Browser myself.

Don't bother with IE7, as most users (including myself) have had major corruption whilst using IE7, and no apology from Microsoft, either.

MS Vista is the same. If you don't HAVE to use Vista, steer well clear of it, in all its versions.

Kind Regards....

What is the relationship between Sea Monkey and FireFox, both from Mozilla? I'm currently using FireFox...

Hello dkwarner

Firefox is essentially an Internet Browser from the Open-Source Mozilla Foundation - With greater facilities, add-ons and security than MS Internet Explorer.

SeaMonkey is an Internet Suite also from the Open-Source Mozilla Foundation - SeaMonkey includes Browser, Chat and Mail facilities. SeaMonkey replaces the earlier Mozilla Internet Suite, when it was discoved that a major Security issue was incorporated into the Mozilla Internet Browser. The Mozilla Internet Suite deveoplment was at that point immediately ceased, and that Security issue ceased to be a problem, as the SeaMonkey Code is written differently to avoid that Security issue.

You may use either Firefox, SeaMonkey, or both simultaneously, without worry.

Development of both Firefox Browser and SeaMonkey Suite continues as Open-Source from the Mozilla Foundation.

Trust that clarifies for you.

Kind Regards....

Thanks!

Is the Browser section of Sea Monkey different than Firefox?

Of course since I'm a Mac user, IE is out of the picture - MS hasn't supported IE for Mac for quite a few years now. I'm perfectly happy with Apple's Mail program, and haven't gotten around to using Chat but one single time, when the other person was at the same table. One of these days I do need to get truly started on Chat.

Hello again, dkwarner

<"....The SeaMonkey Suite

SeaMonkey has inherited the successful all-in-one concept of the original Netscape Communicator and continues that product line based on the modern, cross-platform architecture provided by the Mozilla project.

  • The Internet browser at the core of the SeaMonkey suite uses the same rendering engine as its sibling Mozilla Firefox, with popular features like tabbed browsing, popup blocking, find as you type and a lot of other functionality for a smooth web experience.
  • SeaMonkey's Mail and Newsgroups client shares lots of code with Mozilla Thunderbird and features adaptive Junk mail filtering, labels and mail views, multiple accounts, S/MIME, address books with LDAP support and is ready for both private and corporate use.
  • Additonal components include an easy-to-use HTML Editor, the ChatZilla IRC chat application and web development tools like a DOM Inspector and a JavaScript debugger.
  • If that's still not enough, SeaMonkey can be extended with numerous Add-Ons.....">that provide additional functionality and customization for a complete Internet experience.

Refer for MAC compatible releases here: http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/

Kind Regards....

Always carry a box of solar flares in the boot. They're very handy if you have a flat tyre after dark.

Re: What's going on?

Last night I was searching for some law on google - I think the word Act got me to open this site. I like many things but don't really like it to make eye contact.

When I tried to click escape the program offered to check my program for viruses and did not accept NO for an answer.

Afterwards I tried to cleanup and deleted temporary files, cookies, biscuits, salty cracks etc. The result was a computer that did not know me and some crazy settings.

It resulted in me posting almost the same reply twice.

After some changing it is back to business now.

I hate that, when you can't escape from some poxy site...I usually resort to the Vulcan Nerve Pinch (Ctrl-Alt-Del) or switching off the power. Then, like you say, it's the clean up/virus scan routine.

Nawwww I just pull out the internet connection from the router and then close down programs, scrub clean all temporary files and do a full virus sweep...

So far it worked well with no viruses being found...

When those things pop up on your screen and you can't immediately get rid of them just press "control" "alt" "delete" and use Task Manager to get rid of them.

Watch out for the video codex with this Trojan virus in them. Much harder to fix. Had to do a DOS system scan. Shut the virus program down in task manager and system start up. Then removed 6 copies it put in my system. Good thing I'm not current on my computer IT. 10 years ago I'd go hunting and give them the blue screen of death from the ATM codes. Yes I'm pissed. I may hunt yet. See how they like litigation and liens on all assets.

About 6.5 hours to fix. MS and HP made it much harder to do anything about it. System administrator has set policies to prevent this XXXXXX. When I'm logged in as the Sys. Admin. Grumble Grumble BooM.

We released a new version of the site on Monday evening and it had a bug which prevented the system from sending email notification about updates to subscribed discussions. As far as I know teh bug has been fixed. Are you still having issues?

I am subscribed to this discussion, (as shown at the top of this page) but it does not show up in my subscribed discussions list. Also, I noticed that the green "edit" button stayed on my last post for longer than 15 minutes. When I clicked it, I received the too late message. Upon refreshing the screen however, the green edit button reappeared. I think that is different than it used to be -- but then again, maybe it doesn't get turned of until one makes a new post?

Maybe C 4 needs a new section called " OUT THERE", meaning out in the world where they use and destory the things we have struggles to build and fill the needs preceived or actual.

Out There could let people discuss anything that is off topic.

Re: What's going on?

08/10/2008 9:42 AM

About the same time this site started having problems, a friend's website went down. After some checking he found out the dynamic IP's had not been rotated for some time, then they were all rotated that morning, approximately 2 a.m. Pacific Time. I had problems with other sites that I assumed would have had a static IP at the same time.

Through his research a few interesting facts came to life, 1. Go Daddy does not know what a dynamic name server is, and requires you to manually update your IP address. 2. Go Daddy suppled his domain name server and their server took precedence over two additional dynamic name servers he was using. 3. Murphy was indeed an optimist, one defective name server overrode the two properly functioning servers. From Chris's explanation it seems like this was just a software glitch.

However from the number websites that crashed that morning, I think the paranoids may be watching us. I only say this because if I didn't, they would know I suspected it, and was trying to hide my suspicions. Therefore I can now be played off as paranoid. However it concerns me that they would know that I would know and I would try and fool them. However this could be countered............................................................................................ fortunately I'm not paranoid.
