I notice that quite often posters whom are registered choose not to offer any location. I am curious as to why that might be?

Beats me. Sometimes it's very important to know where someone is from to give a reverent answer. It makes no sense to me, go figure.

Location is important in many cases in order to get a good response. Never could figure out why people omit their location. Conspiracy buffs? Paranoid maybe ?

Cultural habit born of the kind of paranoia that afflicts newly affluent societies. They seem to think they need to hide behind some kind of anonymity.

If I'm not keeping up with the conspiracies, or looking over my shoulder, I am often in the state of Confusion. I don't think that info is relevant.

When I think location is relevant, i will provide a location as a hint. Otherwise, I prefer to be somewhat anonomous to keep somewhat private, but use a name to lend a small semblance of ownership to my posts.

I grew up in eastern ND, but in college I had a roommate from Elgin. I am a bit familiar with the area.

Be careful with the "hydrogen from water" energy salesmen, they seem to be mostly shysters. Efficiency isn't what they crack it up to be.

Re: Member locations

It actually shows a complete lack of common sense as those same people without location infos, are the self same idiots that ask questions which need a location to allow a correct or full answer......

Different voltages and frequency around the world are a prime source of problems for CR4 members generally....for example.

They do not need to be extremely exact generally, for US citizens, often knowing just that they live in the USA helps enormously, or giving the state is also a big help....

Agreed AG. It is often of utmost importance in answering a post or in decifering a response.

Also the sure to come ribbing and guffawing that takes place is often helped with knowledge of at least a general location.

Andy Germany < you are correct about the basic problem of different voltages from around the world, but if one could take 110 volts at 4 amps with a setting of 60 cycles would it be cheaper than natural gas ?

Re: Member locations

why not make a few of the fields mandatory and get rid of the guest status. This "guest" status muddies things up when more than one enters into a discussion. make it easy to get on.

Slightly off topic, it's a shame some of the dafter question couldnt be edited out (how do I connect my generator, What is this I have in my hand etc.)

Friend - I assure you this notion has been tried in the courts of CR4 with as great an exposure as the Lindberg baby trial

it's a shame some of the dafter question couldnt be edited out (how do I connect my generator, What is this I have in my hand etc.)

I am afraid if those were done away with I would have nothing to respond to ;)

TexasCharley,as sure as the notion been tyred in the courts of CR4 this notion is or was suggested to myself that I could get a reasonable response from intellectuals folks, and my location does not matter to the question, but at 40 below zero air temp,I suppose it.This is my first time in this type of discussion group,I excepted this suggestion with anticipation of incite of others. Guess I was wrong.

North Dakota! It doesn't help me a lot (I don't know if it is cold enough to suggest an igloo) but it will help Bricktop to know what your electricity rates are. As he have suggested it is better to use the power for direct heating.

Water that is not split up do not need recycling.

Hendrik,by recycling the exhaust and running it through a condenser the return is free of minerals that keeps the system cleaner.Yes you can build a igloo in the Dakotas.the electricity rates do not become a factor in this case because of the way the electricity is produce.

A happy New Year to everybody - peace - health - other essentials of life!

I did not disclose my location for the first couple of months.

If you are in a company or in an organisation or any other structure where there is competition in any sense of human behaviour it may make sense not to show to others what you are doing and arguing elsewhere.

Anybody with a needtoknow would have got an answer - the email access was existing.

So in order to protect the individual user it may be sound to not disclose your location.

Andy, I do share Rhabe's point to some extent.

If you work on a concept and if you get stuck somewhere you might need a bit of help or hint but do not want to reveal what's that you're doing, which ofcourse can make it that much more difficult for the others to assist at this forum since they do not have a clear relevant picture.

In any case people should be as clear as possible what they're on about.

Revealing their geographical locations and other relevant infos should not contribute to a dead give-away of their ideas, should it?

Otherwise they'd better sit down and think before they ask for help, shouldn't they?

Hi Andy G.

if you never experienced malevolent others, in your group, in the next higher level of power or also as subordinated persons, then you missed a bad experience but may be happy to be free of it.

I experienced a lot of this at very different locations so I am (was) cautious.

Competition inside companies can have very different faces (often double-faced) especially if there are bad economic times and a non-competent board of chiefs.

The situation inside research organisations and universities is sometimes better but not guaranteed.

So I stay to be cautious if foreseeing maybe problems, as soon as this possibility vanished I added my location.

I think that you are still being over cautious, though your comments about what goes on within companies are sadly too true.

Somehow I cannot relate giving my country and an aproximate location to mobbing in a company!!!!

Hi Rehabe,

these posts are confidential in a sense that is why there are the pseudonyms. The location down to the last few metres is not neccesary. A state / Province would suffice.

One reason might be, not realizing that location info is so important to other members.

I notice that a few members consider location important enough to put it in their nick name while others prefer the abstraction of place we enjoy in cyber.

different strokes.

Scotchdrnkr on the rocks, eh? I was once a scotch drinker. Then I was won ober by beer you can cut with a knife and cheap California wine. But that's another story..... .

I have no problems with disclosing where I live to a useful resolution that will keep the spam and junk mail at bay. Search hard enough and you will find me.

Anything I have to say in a public forum is OK for all to hear. I have respect for and perception of the pluses and minuses of all life forms, not just human; so I don't worry too much about casting insults. I have no fear of people who are stupid enough to try to mess with me. The remainder are either smart enough not to, or a quick learn. So why hide?

Am I unique? I doubt it...........

Blame it on the cheap CA wine....... Ed Weldon

C'mon fellas!

What if the poor guy's gonna say: - help my Rover stopped working! - where are you? - I'm on Mars, doing some geological survey...Will this be helpful to assist him?

What would you say 'Stay right where you are help is on the way'? He might think I cannot trust earthy creatures and he also break-down.

I guess you can always wish him a - Happy new year - with plenty of sunshine!

I just updated my portfolio (added location). I had a question I wanted to post on this forum when I signed up some months ago; Guess I was in such a hurry for an answer I didn't paid much attention to all the questions asked.

Up until your thread I never paid attention to my own portfolio. Your right it is helpful info when trying to answer questions.
