Who Gives GAs?

02/07/2010 10:55 PM

I think that some are getting regular GA for what ever they reply. What do you feel? Is it not a Good Idea to know who is putting GA score to whom in this forum?

I was prompted to look up something you posted to a thread I started.

I don't think you deserved a GA for your post.

As an obverse maybe anonymous votes for GAs might then be understandable to you, aye?

Not every good idea, is a good idea.

I am not aware that you have started this thread, thanks for the information. On CR4 only "Answers" can be rated with GA; not posts, as you claim "I don't think you deserved a GA for your post." I am not interested in GAs but wonder some poor reply got GA score. You are rightly said may be some guests are giving the rating. Ever since I have joined CR4 I am very regular visitor to this site; No doubt this is great forum I have recommended this to many of my friends. colleagues. Have a nice day!

Guests can't give GA's. One must be registered and logged on with their user name to give a GA.

As most are noting, GA's aren't a big deal. The people who know, who really count, know what a "real" GA is, if it's noted as such or not.

I didn't start this thread.

I started one about who where the top 10 scientists, or what where the top ten inventions, which wherein you got a GA, that I looked up, and didn't think all that hot.

Everybody cares about the GAs. We actually had a new case where we turned an off topic post into a GA, so you never know what might happen.

Hang around.

It'll work out.

GA's can be over rated from what they actually are.

There are plenty of good answers that do not reach that status.

Re: Who give GA score?

No question; a GA vote is gratifying, especially if you take care to compose a really effective/interesting/humorous answer. However, I haven't noticed a pattern of anyone getting "automatic" GAs. More frequently I see a poster B mostly repeat something a poster A said earlier, with B getting a GA but A having been passed over.

In a related thread "nick name" has compiled some data showing that a person's percentage of GAs tends to decline over time. One explanation for this might be that a new member tries pretty hard to be conscientious. But after seeing some bad topics (Eff > 1), poorly composed questions, and missing data, one tends to answer in jest rather than seriously.

In other words, the fun factor takes over. Hence fewer GAs, but more entertainment.

The post you are referring to exposed nick name's data to have a few flaws. The big one being that GAs have not been around as long as CR4 and therefore there are a number of, shall I say, older members who have accumulated a lot of responses without the possibility of getting a GA.

That being said, your assertion certainly sounds reasonable.

You are correct about the number of posts that some had prior to the start of the Good answer feature.

The good answers that I take to heart are when the original poster or someone else gives feedback that the answer helped.

Some GA's are awarded for wit, humor, or substyle.

Some for substance.

The point is to provide worthy assistance by saring experience or knowledge.

Not scorekeeping.

We are in this forum to learn and share with each other, and not worry about GAs. Also, GA is an opinion expressed by one of us over a good answer to a query, and opinions can vary. I feel, one should Just enjoy the enriching and informative experience of participating in the discussions.

Re: Who Gives GAs?

GA's don't really matter (unless I get one, then I feel quite pleased).

But like any such system is open to abuse. I often seen GA's given to posts that didn't seem to deserve one, while well thought out posts miss out.

It's not a bad idea to have the givers of a GA listed. Many contributors already do this (..you get a GA from me)

Why you worry about GAs others are getting?

Many discussions had been there on the forum regarding GAs, and it is very clear that all mature participants never bother and care about GAs. They just participate, share, get enriched and even enjoy the discussions.

If some body is enjoys getting more and more GAs through managed votes, let him enjoy.

Hell, I fess up to giving gas. I think even the queen of England gives gas. Come to think of it most animals and even fish give gas. Isn't that where all this green house warming comes from?

Oh....I am sorry its GAs. Hell its like school days and getting a star. I would acknowledge it if I give it but mostly I just enjoy and contribute where I can. Too old for stars but still passing gas.

GAs or No GAs, I love this forum for some interesting and apt replies that are posted and if I like one, I do not hesitate to award a GA.

By the way KVS, your biography is very interesting. I am from the same city with similar interests. Should find out a way to meet together.

Well the odd GA at least gives me some spark of delight that the bush has not completely saturated what little grey matter the sun has not scorched out of me old head. And for that reason I'll post a GA when someone hits the proverbial nail on the head.

This forum is a daily delight and has helped me and those I have referred big time. I spend most of my time helping people with challenges in their businesses. Often my clients have posted questions that you all have helped solve. For that I, and they, will always be eternally grateful.

Most often some of the funnies are "heaven sent" on days when consulting simply gets too heavy and I wish I rather spent the day under a tree watching dung-beetles wrestle their load. They at least were created/(if you please:evolved) to spend the day in the k*@p. So occasionally a funny will get a GA from me.

So if you want to use GA's as a score card to boost your ego, enjoy, you deserve every one. Anything that twings your twang, please just keep up the constructive and much appreciated posts and answers going!

PS A special word of thanks to the Guru's who so willingly share their wisdom You guys and gals are supercool!

Envy (also called invidiousness) may be defined as an emotion that "occurs when a person lacks another's (perceived) superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it."[1]

Envy can also derive from a sense of low self-esteem that results from an upward social comparison threatening a person's self image: another person has something that the envier considers to be important to have. If the other person is perceived to be similar to the envier, the aroused envy will be particularly intense, because it signals to the envier that it just as well could have been he or she who had the desired object.[2][3]

Bertrand Russell said envy was one of the most potent causes of unhappiness.[4] It is a universal and most unfortunate aspect of human nature because not only is the envious person rendered unhappy by his envy, but also wishes to inflict misfortune on others. Although envy is generally seen as something negative, Russell also believed that envy was a driving force behind the movement towards democracy and must be endured in order to achieve a more just social system.[

I do not believe on GA in this field of sharing information and helping some one with the knowledge base we have as long as it does not effect his or her job or business.

Money is not every thing some thing call sharing knowledge base is fundamental moral value we should have

I do not agree with you, though it is true that many very simple answers with no real stuff gets GA. But that is because the person who gives GA feels that reply as GA.

If one wants more and more GAs, by hook or crook, it is very simple. Generate two e mail IDs. Register we CR4 IDs and give GAs to your own answer through your other account.

With this you can get 100% GAs. But you do not see anybody getting 100% GAs. Thus, I am sure no body is following such immature ways.

Thus stop suspecting and concentrate on getting many more GAs, by giving really good replies. Also enjoy the forum without thinking of getting GAs.

While registered, I wanted GA's. But CR4 revoked my account after a political arguement.

Best thing that ever happened. Now I comment as a guest without worrying about GA's. Way better!

One one side you say you wanted GAs, and now you say it is better that you do not worry about GAs (As a guest what other thing you can do)

The mature members here never worry about GA even though they have proper ID

Re: Who Gives GAs?

Good answers usually are for the poster who get to the answer early. If you see the post long after it has been up your answer has a much less chance of getting a GA even if it is a good solution to the asked question. Many people have already seen the post and seen the existing answers and don't come back to see the later responses.

Now ask yourself. Are you really here just to get GAs. Is that really the right reason to post here? Aside from humor, posting should be to help the questioner, or to provide related information, not to help your own self worth.

One can not be the best at everything. Thus we have CR4.

GAs are not the aim of most of us here, if we get one its great, if we don't its still great to be here.....

I like giving GAs when I see a post that is well thought out or even sometimes well 't have any hard and fast rules though!!

If your aim is to earn GAs, you may get very dissappointed!!
