Noise Maker to Frighten Asian Carp

I want to frighten Asian Carp so that I can spear them, or shoot them with a bow, from a kayak. They jump like crazy. Most fisherman are using a loud outboard that gets them jumping. I want the noise to be primarily underwater. Any suggestions?

One of DuPont's frontline products (at one time): Dynamite! I forgot to check the size in the video. It was a #5, I think. Spinners are sized by how many fish come up! The 8" X 1-1/4" (I think that is right) we used for clearing stumps and such was sized as a #24.

Should you come across some old, sweaty dynamite, let us know:

I never fished with the aforementioned pyrotechnic, but I'll bet it would be fun.

You really didn't know about Base 217? You didn't really think I spent that much money on a boat, did you? Well, I've finally perfected that nuclear generator you pooh poohed last year. That's why I needed the private "off planet" site. Didn't want to obliterate the earth with a chain reaction if I miscalculated somewhere and gave it too many megastropes.

Base 217? Nope, I was completely in the dark. Plausible deniability, I suppose.

The DuPont Spinner #24 was the routine fishing tackle used by a fellow my dad knew (I was about ten I suppose). While an accomplished woodsman, I doubt anyone would have ever accused him of being a conservationist.

Mike,

The Dupont company was one of the first and longest running manufacturers of Dynamite in the US, and a "spinner" is a generic name for a fishing lure, thus, Dupont spinner

this idea works... totally off topic.. i was working Syria, in a little town called Derrazor towards the Iraq border, and the hotel was on the banks of the Euphrates, when one almighty bang sounded, the building shook, the room windows moved, the light fittings jumped, I hit the floor.. when I looked out of the window.. there was a local man in a small boat like craft on the river, casual as you like, lighting sticks of dynamite and tossing them into the water.

Those stunned fish came floating to the surface and he just scooped them up!

Fresh underwear time!!

Never got my old crank Biddle megger to work off a boat for fishing but maybe needed to play with the wires and more help cranking. A megger WILL cause all the earthworms come out of the ground between two rods 3-4 foot apart, start of fishing

I like this idea. An alarm like on a laptop lock or personal alarm. I can look for those online, and they are cheap, loud, annoying and compact! I can put them in a triple freezer bag and tie it to a cord. I will look for the old fashioned bells like in warehouses too.

Does it have to be loud? I guess the jumping is a defence mechanism so maybe there's a particular frequency that triggers it. An underwater speaker as has been suggested might be effective if you can identify what scares the fish.

Go to a swimming pool store (or online) and look for an underwater speaker. Not sure what you would use to drive it. Maybe a boom box. A car stereo & battery are probably too heavy and bulky to take in a kayak. How about an M80 (oops, showing my age, M1000 today!) tied to a rock? Could be pretty funny. A muffled boom followed by 50 fish jumping out of the water simutaneously!!

Put some water and dry ice in a plastic jug (2-liter soft drink or equal), seal tightly and quickly, and toss in the water. In about 15-20 seconds, the bottle will explode very loudly. Don't forget to retrieve the plastic jug later. The heavier and stronger the jug, the louder the bang. Also great for the 4th of July where fireworks are banned.

GA ronseto but any old caver will tell you carbide works better for "fishing" with a plastic bottle. Sometimes it will ignite but just the pressure explosion will do it. Can you still buy carbide?
