How many micro waves will it take to heat 60 gallons of water in 10 minutes?

Did you mean 120 microwave ovens?

I wasn't going to answer this thread (not enough info, as you said) but I couldn't resist commenting on the number you gave.

Yes 120 ovens. If you heat a cup full at a time for x secs and take about y secs to remove and fill the cup with new water.

A person would be required to fill the cups, another to take it out and another to add sugar, milk and coffee.

I just created jobs for 630 people. A must in developing countries.

Ok the 120 was selected at random.

Depends on the power of the microwaves.

Water has a thermal capacity of 4.18kJ/kg.degC. One can do a back-of-the-envelope calculation based upon that figure.

Lets put a few numers out ther for the hell of it. Starting temp is a cool 10°C with the final temp being 100°C. How many watts will be needed to heat the water in ten minutes.

I'm being lazy (actually at home sick this week) so I didn't do the math myself...Sorry.

The question came at the right time, our kettle broke and we must make our coffee in the micro wave.

15 persons, 13 mugs and 2 cups in a 15 min break (- 5 min to drink = 10 min). we don't really need 60 gal but someone must wash the cups.

Help is urgently needed. Withdrawal symptoms are appearing.

Just a question are we talking about ovens or waves?

Right now, I'd rather have the waves. I haven't been to the beach in a long time. It's like an oven inside the house.

If the microwaves in question are 2.45 GHz (apparently typical for microwave ovens), it will take 2.45 x 10^9 X 60 x 60 or 8,820,000,000,000 microwaves to heat anything for an hour.

Assuming you have a 60 gallon microwave oven.

oops, that should have been,

If the microwaves in question are 2.45 GHz (apparently typical for microwave ovens), it will take 2.45 x 10^9 X 60 x 10 or 1,470,000,000,000 microwaves to heat anything for 10 minutes.

Assuming you have a 60 gallon microwave oven.
