Same to you Ron. Go lightly on the spirits, or other spirits may come and take you away!

Re: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Merry Christmas belatedly to all who are a part of CR4 and may we remember the reason of why we celebrate a special event that took place 2012 years ago.

In regard to Ron's OP; man will only quit killing eachother when we have a change of heart and adopt the teaching of the One who was born 2012 years ago.

Whether the New Year will be a good one or not is not dependent upon everything going smoothly. It will more depend upon my response to the things that happen.

The following article is from Life Manifesto by Stephen Palmer:

L

ife is like a game of Scrabble.

And there was a time in my life when I was staring at an empty board with a handful of lousy letters.

In late 2007, Queen Karina and I were heavily invested in real estate.

We were banking on a 7,500 square foot house paying us $250,000 after finishing the basement.

Then the housing bubble burst, and our plans along with it.

We were extremely lucky to sell the house and break even. We negotiated to live for six months in the basement we had just paid a lot of money to finish.

We ended up losing five properties, $120,000 cash, our car, most of our furniture, and most importantly, our main source of income.

Soon after we had moved into the basement, I discovered that our bank account would be overdrawn if I didn't act fast. I had no income and not a clue as to what to do. I hit my knees.

Queen Karina and I like to play Scrabble. Occasionally we'll catch each other bemoaning our letters, saying, "If only I had an 's,'" or whichever letter we need to score big. We remind each other to play the board--to play what is, not what we wish for.

"If only" is an absurd waste of time and energy.

In Scrabble, as in life, we can wish for something different all we want. But our board is our board, our letters are our letters. We got what we got, and no amount of wishing will change that. We must forget what we don't have, focus on what we do have, and play what we can.

Theodore Roosevelt put it like this:

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."

Sometimes in life we draw lousy letters and we're staring at an empty board. What we do in those moments defines us and determines whether or not we'll be prepared when everything falls into place.

If we bemoan our fate and whine "if only" when our letters are lousy, we'll still be whining when they're fabulous and we won't see and capitalize on opportunity.

And more often than not, the letters we think are lousy can actually score big.

Just the other night I was staring at these letters on a tough Scrabble board: I V R I I L T. I cursed the letters and played something lame for nine points, only to discover that I could have played "virility," using all my letters for seventy-two points.

If we focus on abundance and possibility, assets and opportunities are revealed that we can't see when we're focused on what we wish we had.

We see what we want to see. What we see determines what we do. What we do determines the results we experience.

The faster we accept reality, the better we play the game of life.

Forget what you wish you had. Play what you have. Because it's better than you think.
